Chapter Nine; Thanksgiving part 1

Lucas.
When I woke up I realized I was alone in bed, I went to look at my phone and see it was 7 in the morning and I had a text from Grace.
Grace: Goodmorning. I didn’t want to wake you before I left, I have to get back home this morning to help my mom with dinner and stuff tonight. See you tonight, Handsome. I can’t wait for you to see me in my new dress I bought. Love you.
Her telling me she loved me last night, just made me so happy. I wish we could just be open with our relationship. I don’t want to hide that she’s mine anymore, I want everyone to know that she’s taken. Stephan and Andrew especially, I know her and Andrew are still friends, honestly I don’t like the idea but there’s nothing I can do. I needed to get up, and start packing for my trip on the morning. I going to see my parents, I haven’t seen them since April. I am always a last minute packer. After I finished packing my phone started to ring, when I picked it up, I noticed it was Maddie. She has barley contacted in the last couple months. I decided to ignore it, but when I didn’t answer, she called again. I decided to pick it up, or else I feel like she won’t leave me alone.
“Hello?”
“Hey there, I missed you.”
“I can’t say the same for you. What do you need, Maddie?”
“Mark is out of town for a week, and I’m bored. He didn’t even invite me to go stay with his family, so I have no Thanksgiving plans.”
“And this is my problem why?”
“Because I need someone to hang out with on Thanksgiving, my family ain’t doing anything this year. So I need my Lucas, and I know he won’t say no to me because I know his dirty little secret.”
“Maddie, I can’t, even if I actually wanted to. I have plans tonight then I’m leaving town in the morning.”
“Well problem solved, take me with you on your plan today.”
I can’t exactly take her to Grace’s parents house for dinner. Grace, and actually Michael would have freak out if I brought her with me. But I can’t exactly not go to dinner because either way Grace will be mad at me.
“Can we not do this today? Out of all days, Maddie. Why are you even caring about me? You have a boyfriend, I mean I know he left you behind to go on his trip but still. When’s this gonna end?”
“If that’s what you want, then fine, it will end. Which means so will your relationship because when your bestfriend knows about you dating his daughter, I know he’s not gonna like that too much.”
“Uggg, fine. You can come. Just please behave yourself. Be there to pick you up at 4.”
“Of course I will. See you soon, babe.” She said as she hung up.
Grace isn’t going to be happy and I don’t want to have to tell her, but I can’t just surprise her that would be worse. I dialed her number, it only rang once before she answered .
“Hey, I just about to text you. You’re not gonna be happy. I am sorry.”
“What’s wrong?”
“My grandparents are coming today, and since Stephan is here, my parents, well my mom wants to to pretend to be back with him.”
“What? Why?” I said pi***d.
“Because they don’t want my relationship drama around today, and instead of Stephan explaining himself, and I have to explain myself to my grandparents, it would just be easier to say we’re together. My grandparents only come around few times a year, they showed up as a surprise to us, so My mom wants to enjoy having her parents here.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t come. I don’t need to watch this happening, it’s our first thanksgiving together, and I not watching my girlfriend pretend to be with someone else. I have done that enough to.”
“No, I want you to come. I wanna see you before you gone for three days.”
“Fine, I’ll be there. You aren’t gonna be happy either.” I said to before hanging up.
I called Michael to explain that, I was bringing a friend, I told him who it was too. I told him if he didn’t want me to come that was fine, but I felt bad for her and didn’t want her to be alone on Thanksgiving. Explained that she has been dealing with mental health. He agreed for her to come as along as she could behave, and treat everyone respectfully.
It was nearly after 3 and I got ready to go pick up Maddie. That’s when i got a text.
Grace: You’re really bringing to your ex??? What to get back at me from honoring my moms wishes?? Just forget it, call my dad and come up with a excuse why you can’t come. Please just don’t come please!
Me: Wait so I have to watch you be with your ex? But I can’t bring mine because she going through something and doesn’t wanna be alone.
Grace: I know you are only bringing her to get back at me. Please just don’t come Luke I’ll see you Monday..
I wasn’t gonna text her and make her more mad then she already is. But nor was I not going to thanksgiving.
“Sorry babe, I gotta do this for us..” I said out loud to myself.
I went and picked up Maddie, she was dressed up nice. On the drive over, I asked her to be respectful and be on her best behavior. She agreed, but I had my doubts. When we arrive at Michael’s house, we got out, and walked in to the house, that’s when I saw Graces face. She looked hurt, she then looked away from me when she seen me. Michael greeted Maddie and I as he offered me a beer and Maddie a glass of wine. We sat in the living, with everyone.
That’s when I heard something that grind my gears,
“Hey babe, I’ll get you some more wine.” Stephan said as he walked into the living room and grabbed the glass out of Grace’s hand.
I rolled my eyes, then I got up and walked into the kitchen where it was just Stephan standing pouring a glass of wine.
“So how are things going with Grace? Win her back yet?”
“No but I think I will. So back off. She was mine first.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I don’t know what exactly is or isn’t going on with you and Grace. I don’t really care, it’s over. She’s mine and I will have her back and take her far away from you.” He said as he walked away.
I pulled out my phone and texted Grace.
Grace: Meet me in the bathroom, now!
I then walked into their guest bathroom and waiting for Grace. I started to pace back and forth, then the door opened and Grace walked in.
“What is wrong with you?”
“Stephan knows, I don’t know how. But he knows something.”
“How?”
“I don’t know but he told me to back off, he didn’t care what is going on, he’s getting you back and taking you away from me.”
“Is that Maddie’s plan to?”
“Grace, Maddie and I aren’t pretending to be together, I’m her friend and she didn’t want to be alone.”
“Really? Cause she just told my grandparents you guys are together and you are are happiest as ever.”
“I will fix this.”
She then rolled her eyes and walked out. I rubbed my hands on the top of my head before walking out of the bathroom. I walked up to Maddie and asked to talk to her. We walked into another room.
“Why are you telling people here that we are together. I asked you to behave, this isn’t what I meant.”
“I can say whatever I want, or else everyone here will find out the truth. Now kiss me!”
“What? No I’m not gonna kiss you.”
That when she went in for a kiss, after I pushed her away, I looked over and saw Grace starring this way. Maddie smiled, that’s when Margaret announced dinner was done. We all started to gather around and sit at the table. “This looks amazing, Margaret.” Stephan said.
“Thank you Stephan.” She said. “Dig in everyone.” She added.
Maddie and I were sitting across from Grace, Stephan and Eli. I had to eat while I watched Stephan put his arm on my girlfriend, kissed her hand, make her smile, and laugh. I just felt like I was boiling up, as much as I don’t want her parents to find out, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t hide this anymore, that’s when I watched him kiss her cheek.
“I CAN NOT TAKE THIS ANYMORE.” I said pretty loud. I stood up and excused myself as I walked out of the house.
No one’s pov;
“What just happened?“ Margaret said.
By the look of everyone faces, Margaret, Michael and Graces grandparents were the only ones confused.
“I am gonna go see if he is alright.” Grace said as she got up and went outside.
“By the look at all your faces, someone knows something. So someone speak up.” Michael said.
“It’s because Luke is jealous.” Maddie said.
Eli gave Maddie a stern look.
“Jealous of what?” Margaret said.
“Jealous because of you making Stephan and Grace pretend to date. When he’s actually been dating Grace for the last 3 months” Maddie replied.
No one said anything after that.
Lucas
I stood outside, taking a deep breath. When I saw Grace come outside.
“Are you ok? What was that?” She said.
“Grace, I can’t do this anymore. I can’t watch you be with another guy. I love you, watching you pretend to be with that jerk is driving me crazy. I’m gonna take off, apologize to your parents for me. I’ll see you Monday.” I said to her.
“Luke, no stop. I’ll come with you.”
“No, I need to figure this out before I let you come with me again.” I said but before I could walk away. I heard the front door open, and stood there was Michael.
“Grace, go inside please.” He said to Grace.
Grace walked inside, and shut the door.
“I am sorr..” but before I could finish he interrupt me.
“I don’t care how sorry you are, I want to know why you needed to hide the fact that you’ve been dating my daughter the last three months from me?” He said angrily.
“Honestly Mike I don’t know how to answer this. We just..” he interrupted me again.
“When were you planing on telling me? On your wedding day? I trusted you with my daughter. Is that why you gave her that job cause you liked her? How long have you liked her?”
“For the record, when we talked about her working at my company I didn’t know I liked her like that!! But now, I don’t like your daughter, I love her.”
“Love her? Well fall out love with her! Your not right for my daughter.”
“Fall out of love with her? No. She’s an adult, she can see who she wants to see!”
“I don’t want you seeing my daughter anymore, and not if I have anything to do with it. I don’t want you coming around here anymore, and frankly I think you should find someone to replace her at work. Whatever this all is, it’s over. Neither of you could have the respect to come to me about this. Now please, leave and take the woman you brought with you. Oh and fyi, if you didn’t want your secret told, don’t bring a woman who knows already..” he said to me as he walked back in.
Just then Maddie walked out, and I shook my head at her.
“You told him? Why?”
“Because he asked, so I told him.”
“Maddie, get it through your head, I don’t like you anymore, I don’t care for you anymore, leave me alone. I love Grace, and since you might of just messed everything up, I can careless how you get home. Honestly I don’t ever wanna see you again.” I said to her as I walked to my car got in it and drove away.
I called the airlines, and seen if I could can an earlier flight. Earliest I could get was 3 am, and I took it.
