03. "The Uncontrollable Thoughts" Alessandro Tossing and turning in bed Alessandro tried to bring some comfort to his restless mind. Recently he had lost absolutely all control over himself, he couldn't concentrate on work that was once his priority. All because of her. Poppy. Poppy Sanderson had taken over his mind, and no matter how much he tried she wouldn't leave. It all started the day after they met and still continued, much to his dismay. Shifting for the thousandth time he glanced at the digital alarm clock on his bedside table. 3:20 am it read. He let out a groan of discomfort, getting out of bed. Deciding to let off some steam Alessandro made a bee line to the gym. The gym was just one one the spare rooms he had converted for times like this. Although it was not as good as the one back home in Italy, it was enough. *** An hour of pushing, pulling, lifting and punching had done little to nothing in improving his mood. The morning was silent except for the occasional sound of heavy metal bars dropping on the floor. It was still too early to be working but remembering about the meeting later today, Alessandro started to review the details as soon as he showered and changed. Work had never been this boring, it was something Alessandro enjoyed doing from a young age. He would accompany his father to his office and try to learn business. But today it was just a chore, something he had to get done on time. A knock echoed just when Alessandro had finished editing the last document on his laptop. "Come in" he replied shortly, entering his closet to ready his clothes for the day. He missed his mom, she would select his clothes and lay them out for him. Perks of having a fashionista mother. She kept him up-to-date on trends or he would look like a hobo. Selene, his maid entered with a glass of juice and a bowl of nicely cut fresh fruits. Laying the tray on the table she hurried out of the room. Taking another shower to get rid of the tiredness he changed in his grey three piece suit matched with sleek black loafers and a silver Rolex. He took his own sweet time finishing breakfast then called Jonathan to get his car ready. During the car ride, once again the beautiful girl invaded his thoughts. It had started to become a matter of concern now. He shifted again in his seat to look out of the window. The city was as lively as the day before, the streets were packed and the roads were jammed. Honking of cars and pollution  filled the air, but no one was bothered by it, almost everyone living here was used to this kind of atmosphere. "Sir, we have arrived." Jonathan said bringing Alessandro out of his thoughts. He got out and entered the Rossini Empires with quick and powerful strides. The Rossini Empires were well know to the world, it was one of the most prestige hotel chain all over since 1900's. Alessandro's grandfather Marco Rossini had started from scratch and within a few years the business escalated. Rossini Empires was handed over to Alessandro's father, Ivan Rossini when Marco Rossini felt he was too old to be working, that old man was now enjoying the quality time with his wife somewhere in Maldives. Ivan Rossini followed his father's steps and the Rossini Empires only grew, he had retired when Alessandro was 21 making him take over the business. Alessandro was without doubt the best thing that happened to Rossini Empires. If his father had brought it to the sky then he was already touching the stars. "You have a meeting with the shareholders before lunch and a video conference with the Mr Davis at 4 pm." Haley, Alessandro's PA listed the things he had scheduled for today, and he was not least bit excited to have a conference with that prick Davis. He was a perverted piece of s**t who f****d anything with two legs and disrespect was his second language, it was always on the tip of his tongue. "Other than that you had asked me to get you the detailed financial reports of past two years, which are placed on your table, Mrs Rossini had called in before you arrived and asked me to remind you about the visit you were planning next week." "Okay you may go now." He replied curtly and she left without a word. In his few years of working Haley was the only one who had managed to stay for more than a year in the position of PA. She was efficient and good at what she did, did not try to seduce Alessandro and very professional. Remembering about his mother's phone call he dialed her number. "How are you Mio figlio? You finally remembered your old mother?" His mother's sweet voice replied from the other side. An involuntary smile slipped on his face, he loved his mother to death. "No madre, absolutely not. Just a little busy with work. It was a particularly hard week here." "You should not work this hard Sandro, how many times I have told you don't stress so much!" She scolded him to which he only laughed. This laugh was only reserved for his family, outsiders never had the pleasure to hear the hearty sound. "I know madre. I am trying. But I have to finish Everything here and get back home to you, and I have to take care of the empire there too. I am a busy man." He said the last part teasingly. His mother scoffed and he could practically feel her rolling her eyes at him. "Yeah right. I am sure your father is doing just fine with being the Mafia boss while you are gone. I swear that old man loves his g**g more than me!" She said earning another laugh from her son. "You know the old man loves you, cut him some slack mamma. And I will be back in no time, then you can have him all to yourself." He replied and teased his mother a little more until she hung up on him. Going back to work, he reviewed the financial statements till his meeting. The profits were good and the employees were satisfied by the remuneration they were getting along with the facilities the company provided. It was a privilege to work in the Rossini Empires with the amount of zero's a person receives when they start working here. Soon the meeting room was prepared and the shareholders were ready for the meeting, the meeting was good, he laid out the points and the shareholders showed their support on them, the rest of the day rolled out and it was finally lunch. Alessandro was sick of sitting in his cabin and was in the mood to get something from out. He called Jonathan and Ordered him to get the car ready. They drove to the nearest cafe which was very famous among the area because of the industrial development. Surprisingly the cafe was not as packed as he imagined it to be, it was nice and cozy. There was a smell of freshly ground coffee in the air along with sugary delights and baked goods. Jonathan and Alessandro took a seat at the corner opposite the window and skimmed through the bright purple coloured menu. "Get me a black coffee with a teaspoon of sugar and a grilled chicken sandwich and get whatever you want." Alessandro said and pulled out his phone to check his emails while Jonathan had gone to order on the counter. Soon Jonathan arrived and both of them had settled into comfortable silence until it was broken by a cheery voice. "Hello! Here is your black coffee with one spoon sugar and a grilled chicken sandwich. And here, your Cappuccino with a vegetable mayo sandwich! Enjoy your meal!" The waitress announced and left them, soon the two hungry beasts were satisfied with the food and headed back to their office. Alessandro made a mental note of the cafe because it served good food. Sitting in his office chair he was cursing himself for agreeing for a partnership with Derek Davis. Derek was a prick in reality but like to show his nonexistent good personality in public and media. His father was a good businessman and due to his request Alessandro had agreed to do business with the stupid son of his. Now he is regretting it. "Hello Alessandro! How are you doing buddy?" Derek's annoyingly high-pitched voice greeted him as soon as he appeared on the laptop screen. "I am not your 'buddy' Mr Davis. Let's skip the pleasantries and get to business, shall we?" He replied curtly and started listing out the topics they had to go through. "This is getting boring really fast Sandro. Can't we just skip to the important parts?" Derek whined from the other side's. Alessandro hated such type of people who did not take their work seriously. He could see that Derek was still in his bedroom from whatever background showed on the laptop. "It's Alessandro to you Mr Davis or better yet call me Mr Rossini like the rest of the world does. And just so you know all of the things I have been explaining are of vital importance, if not then won't waste my time on this video conference." "Oh okay then. Continue." The next thirty minutes felt like an eternity to Alessandro and he couldn't wait to shut his laptop off and stuff it somewhere in the corner of the room. Derek was that annoying. The rest of the day went by smoothly without any interruptions. Occasionally he would get sidetracked by the pretty girl's thoughts but would compose himself quickly and start working again. When Alessandro entered his house, he couldn't be happier. Back home his mother would prepare her special coffee for him when he returned from work which he was missing here, but settled for the coffee his maid prepared. It was not half bad. Dinner was alone and lonely, he was used to bring surrounded by his loud Italian family so sitting on the kitchen island and eating dinner alone was not entirely what Alessandro liked. 'A couple months more.' he assured him self and retired for the night. The moment his head hit the soft pillows he drifted off to the unknown and unpredictable land of dreams, dreaming of a certain girl with a pink bicycle.
