I am enormously grateful to J F Olivares, a photographer and artist indigenous to Fuerteventura who I became friends with when I was first researching this novel and whose photos, links and stories of his island, along with our mutual affection for travel writer, Olivia Stone, proved a major source of inspiration. I share with Juan an enduring passion for the precious island of Fuerteventura, where long ago I almost lived. Through Juan"s generosity and enthusiasm, I have been able to reclaim lost memories and capture something of the essence of an island that is too often known only for its idyllic beaches.
