The hours seemed to stretch forever as Sophia waited. She paced back and forth in her apartment, her mind racing with thoughts of Logan. She had warned him to be careful, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that tonight could be the night everything went wrong.
Around midnight, she heard a knock at the door. Her heart leaped in her chest. She rushed to open it, half-expecting Logan to be standing there. But instead, it was a stranger. A tall man in a dark coat with a cold look in his eyes.
“Are you Sophia?” he asked, his voice rough.
“Who are you?” Sophia replied, taking a step back.
“I’m looking for someone,” the man said, his eyes scanning her apartment. “Logan Carter. He’s in big trouble, and it’s your fault.”
Sophia’s heart skipped a beat. “What do you mean? Where is he?”
The man stepped closer, his voice lowering. “He’s in trouble because of you. He’s been digging too deep into things he should’ve left alone.”
Sophia felt a chill run down her spine. “What do you want with him? What have you done?”
The man smirked. “He’s not dead yet. But if you don’t stop trying to bring us down, he might be. Think about that.”
The man turned and left as quickly as he came, leaving Sophia frozen in place. Her hands trembled as she closed the door, her mind racing. Had they hurt Logan? What was she supposed to do now?
She grabbed her phone and dialed Logan’s number. It rang and rang with no answer. Panic began to set in. She tried again, then again, but still nothing.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from an unknown number:
*“Meet us at the old warehouse by the docks. Come alone if you want to see him again.”*
Sophia’s breath caught in her throat. She knew this could be a trap, but she also knew she couldn’t leave Logan behind. Without thinking, she grabbed her coat and headed out the door, her heart pounding in her chest.
The night was cold and silent as she drove to the docks, every streetlight casting long shadows across the road. When she arrived at the warehouse, it looked empty, its windows dark and lifeless.
Sophia stepped out of the car, her breath fogging in the cold air. She looked around, her heart racing. The only sound was the wind and the soft crunch of her footsteps on the gravel.
As she walked closer to the entrance, she saw a figure step out from the shadows. It was Logan. He was standing, but he looked bruised, his clothes torn. His eyes were wide with relief when he saw her.
“Sophia,” he whispered. “You shouldn’t have come.”
Sophia ran to him, throwing her arms around him. “I couldn’t leave you,” she said, her voice shaking. “Are you okay?”
Logan nodded weakly. “I’m fine. But we’re not safe here. We need to get out before they—”
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps echoed from behind them. The gang was closing in. The fight wasn’t over yet.
