Days passed, but Sophia couldn’t get Logan out of her mind. His words echoed in her head: *“My world is dangerous. If you keep looking for me, you might not like what you find.”* But something about him pulled her in, like a puzzle she needed to solve.
At work, she tried to focus. She sat at her desk, surrounded by stacks of legal documents. Her boss, Mr. Harris, dropped another file in front of her.
“Sophia, we need this done by tomorrow,” he said.
“Yes, sir,” she replied, though her thoughts were far away.
That evening, she decided to walk through the park on her way home. The cool air brushed against her face, and the city lights sparkled in the distance. She hoped the walk would clear her mind.
As she rounded a corner, she saw him. Logan was sitting on a park bench, his head tilted back as he stared at the stars. For a moment, she hesitated. Should she approach him? Or should she let him be?
Before she could decide, he noticed her. His lips curled into a small smile, as if he had been expecting her all along.
“You again,” he said.
“You’re hard to avoid,” she replied, sitting down next to him.
Logan chuckled softly. “Or maybe you’re not trying very hard.”
Sophia smiled but quickly turned serious. “Why do you keep showing up in places I go? Are you following me?”
Logan shook his head. “No. But maybe fate is trying to tell us something.”
She gave him a skeptical look. “You don’t seem like the kind of guy who believes in fate.”
“Maybe not,” he admitted, “but I do believe in warnings. And this is yours, Sophia. Stay away from me.”
Her heart ached at his words, but she refused to back down. “Why do you keep pushing me away? I’m not scared of you, Logan.”
His expression darkened. “You should be.”
Sophia frowned, studying his face. “What are you so afraid of?”
Logan sighed heavily, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. “You don’t understand, Sophia. My life isn’t simple. I’ve made choices—bad ones—and now I can’t take them back. People like me don’t get happy endings.”
“You don’t know that,” she said softly. “You can still change.”
He turned to her, his green eyes sharp. “It’s not that easy. There are people who count on me—people who wouldn’t think twice about hurting you if they thought you were important to me.”
Sophia’s breath caught, but she refused to look away. “Then let me help you. I’m a lawyer. I can find a way out for you.”
Logan laughed bitterly. “You’re too good for this, Sophia. Too good for me.”
Before she could respond, he stood up. “Go home,” he said, his voice softer now. “And don’t look for me again.”
As he walked away, Sophia’s heart ached. But deep down, she knew this wasn’t the end of their story.
