CHAPTER 005
Emily's arrival was a welcome relief; I hadn't realized I needed something until she came in the door, and her presence brought calm into my otherwise chaotic life. After being away for some time, seeing her again brought an oasis of calm; even for just a short while, it allowed my mind to clear before everything escalated again with my father's expected visit.
As I sat, my thoughts turned back to Oliver. I asked myself why I hadn't taken more decisive actions sooner, though I made many threats I never followed through on. And what if Lottie were right and Oliver wasn't coming for her at all? Was I really going to let someone else end her life because of my hesitation?
I hated that I was even questioning myself. Usually, my decisions had always been quick, decisive, and without regret, yet suddenly everything felt different; why, all of a sudden, was I questioning whether what I was doing was right?
Emily's soft touch brought relief. From the way she smiled at me to how her body felt so close to mine, all these little details helped me forget my problems for a brief period. Forget everything else around you and simply enjoy this one moment of comfort.
She always knew just when I needed someone most; she came at exactly the right moment, brightening my day with her presence. Taking my hand, she led me directly into my room, where every movement she made brought me deeper into the present moment until she undressed fully before me and stood naked before me!
"All my attention was focused on her body; all I could feel was desire for her in ways words couldn't express. For a brief moment, everything outside this room simply dissipated—we lost ourselves in each other and didn't care about anything outside.
However, the night was far from over, nor had Lottie's nightmare ended.
Returning to her cell, Lottie lay on the bed, staring through the small window at her past life with Leo before his death, and never imagined it would lead her here: locked away, battered, and broken. The bruises on her back and wounds that wouldn't heal were constant reminders of everything she'd experienced so far painful, yet nothing compared to what lay ahead.
As soon as she heard footsteps outside, it was the same men she'd always encountered arriving to take her away. This time though, she let them drag her off; too worn out to protest anymore, she realized there would be no one there to rescue her, so she allowed them to drag her to her sitting room with anticipation of yet more suffering that awaited her there.
As they brought her into the room, Emily noticed Sebastian sitting comfortably on a sofa with Emily resting her head against his shoulder—both seemed at peace with what was transpiring around them. Emily didn't understand what was taking place.
Lottie felt her legs shake as she looked across the room towards Sebastian's father, Mr. Charles Ferris. Mr. Ferris looked directly into Lottie's eyes with a cold stare. "Are you Lottie Brooks?" asked Charles Ferris in an icy voice.
Sebastian nodded without ever breaking eye contact with Lottie. "Yes, Father," he responded simply.
"She's quite attractive," Mr. Ferris stated as he approached her and began walking toward her. "No wonder Leo couldn't take his eyes off of her; he moved closer, his gaze sweeping over her."
Lottie instinctively stepped back, her mind signaling for her to leave, but her legs wouldn't follow. Every time someone commented on her appearance, it signaled something worse was to come.
"You may already know about what happened between your brother and my nephew," Mr. Ferris continued, seemingly unfazed by her silence.
Lottie kept silent, refusing to provide her coworker with any satisfaction through responding.
Mr. Ferris appeared to enjoy the silence. "Let me make something clear. Your brother's life will only last so long—regardless of where he goes or runs. I will find him."
Lottie let out an unhappily bitter laugh, mockingly declaring, "Nobody is finding him!"
"Do you really believe that?" He asked with amusement and then began. "Maybe you haven't heard enough about the Ferris family. We are more than petty gangsters; we fight for what's ours and make sacrifices on behalf of ourselves and each other—that is our rule."
"Why are you telling me this?" Lottie asked calmly despite feeling panic-stricken inside.
"Because I want you to know that tonight will be your last night here." He gave her a cold smile. I'm taking you back to Florida to be my maid and possibly get married there."
Lottie was stunned by his words and couldn't contain herself; her anger flared suddenly at what he was suggesting to her: he'd rather kill me than marry me! Regardless of your actions toward me, know this one thing—eventually I'm getting out.
"I had no idea she would be so funny. I've come to appreciate her." " Mr. Ferris smiled, then turned his gaze toward Sebastian: "I never expected she would be this funny; I think I may like her now.
Lottie wasn't sure whether she was trying to show strength to make Mr. Ferris back off or simply hold onto what pride she still had left, but when he smiled, she noticed something peculiar; unlike Sebastian, he didn't seem as cold and uncaring.
No one knew why she felt at peace for an instantaneous second.
Sebastian was quiet as ever, his expressionless face always staying emotionless as he gazed upon her—every time his gaze rested upon her, it seemed as if he were appraising her, trying to decide what course of action to take with her.
"We're getting married," Mr. Ferris stated matter-of-factly, as though their decision had already been reached"
Lottie looked at Sebastian, who remained calm without showing any sign of emotion on his face, and realized things weren't unfolding as she expected—no one had discussed her leaving the mansion until today!
"I won't leave," she insisted with her voice trembling with fear and resolve.
Mr. Ferris responded with a smile that seemed to dismiss her words: "Don't worry, sweetie; you'll be in safe hands." As proof, he leaned in close and planted a gentle kiss on her cheek, making her skin crawl in reaction.
Lottie never once looked away from Sebastian even as her tears began flowing freely. It was painful for her to leave behind the life she knew, especially considering she was being forced into living with someone old enough to be her biological father.
"Goodnight, sweetie," Mr. Ferris laughed softly. "Don't forget to dream about us tonight!"
As they dragged her back to her cell, Lottie couldn't look away from Sebastian as they pulled her away. Their eyes locked together, but there was no comfort, only cold indifference. Her tears flowed freely now as they fell unrestrictedly upon the ground.
She knew there was nothing she could do; the situation wasn't about Sebastian anymore—it was now his father, and that was far scarier.
Mr. Ferris felt immensely pleased after meeting Lottie. His initial shock at how beautiful she was seemed to amuse him more than anything.
Sebastian entered the room slowly with a racing mind, his voice rising sharply as he objected to what had been agreed upon with his father. "We didn't discuss this!" exclaimed Sebastian. Sebastian lashed out.
Why didn't you seize the opportunity when it presented itself? What was keeping you from doing it?" Mr. Ferris inquired inquisitively.
Sebastian took a deep breath, his frustration rising rapidly. "You aren't helping right now."
Mr. Ferris made up his mind quickly: he'd take her with him and marry her; everything was now settled.
Sebastian couldn't decide how to react effectively. While his plans could change now, Sebastian couldn't undo what had already happened with his father's decision.
