The cafeteria was filled with the usual noise of clattering trays and bursts of laughter. Amara tried to keep her eyes down as she sat across from Becky, stabbing at her food without much appetite. Becky had been talking non-stop since they sat down, her voice hushed but sharp as if every word carried urgency. “You’re acting like nothing happened,” Becky muttered, leaning closer. “Don’t you see how he looks at you? Don’t you feel it? Everyone does.” Amara sighed, picking at her mashed potatoes. “I don’t want to talk about Leo right now. Can’t we just eat?” But Becky wasn’t the type to let go. “You think staying quiet makes it go away? It doesn’t. He’s dangerous, Amara.
