1009 Words
{The Next Day…..} “What!!, What did you just say”?, Damien said to his PA his voice booming, sending echos round his office. “I said your fiancee ran away from home”, Dahlia, Damien’s PA replied shaking, backing away slowly. “And how did you get this information”, Damien replied, his eyes narrowing and his jaw clenched. “I have an informant at the manor, sir”. “And who is this spy of yours in my fiancee’s house, cause how do I know if this informant of yours is giving you the true information. “The maid sir, she’s my second cousin, we grew up together, so I trust her”. “f**k this, so my wife-to-be ran away and my mother-in-law failed to call me to tell me and I had to hear it from the mouth of someone else”. “I have to call her to make her explain to me why my wife wasn’t under supervision”. “You may leave now”, he said while picking up his phone and turning his chair back to call Miranda. He angrily dialed Miranda’s number twice and it went straight to voicemail both times. Angrily, he stood up and walked out of his office shouting dahlia’s name, “Dahlia”.. “Yes Mr Damien, is there anything you woul…” “Cancel all the appointments and meetings I have scheduled for today” he said cutting her off. “Okay, sir”, she replied, nodding. He called his driver and told him to meet him outside in front of the entrance to the office building. He went downstairs to his car waiting for him outside the building, he entered and closed the car door angrily. “Where to sir”, his driver asked. “To my fiancee’s house”, he said while dialing Miranda’s number once again and it went straight to voicemail. “For f**k’s sake”, he said angrily, throwing his phone to the other side of the backseat. “I am going to literally kill this f*****g woman. I told her to watch Esme”, he said loosening his tie and throwing it to the opposite side of the seat. “I am going to kill her”, he said his voice rumbling. “Esme is mine and mine alone”, he said continuously in a low voice. {Meanwhile, back at the hotel..} Esme woke up to the sunlight peeking through the hotel room blinds, feeling refreshed, she yawned and stretched her limbs, taking in her surroundings. She checked the time and it said 7:05am, she got up to freshen up, went to the bathroom and started preparing for the journey ahead of her. When she was done getting ready, she went downstairs with her duffle bag in her hand towards the reception. A brightly faced brunette with with a bun so tight, it made her look like an over stretched balloon, greeted her with a smile. “Hi, good morning, how may I help you”. “Hi, good morning,, I would like to check out, please”. “Okay, what’s your room number” she asked. “Room 305”, Esme said, sliding the room key across the counter towards the receptionist. “Okay” she said picking up the key as she started typing away at the desktop in front of her, processing her check-out. After a few minutes, she looked up at Esme and said “thank you for staying with us, we hope you stay with us next time, have a great day!”. “And you too”. She left the hotel, hailing a taxi that would take her to the airport. While, on the way, her stomach grumbled out of hunger. She held her stomach realizing that the adrenaline of moving made her forget to eat dinner and breakfast. Tapping the driver she told him to make a detour at the nearest fast food chain around. “That would be another extra forty dollars”, the driver said. “Okay no problem” she said looking at the front mirror to get a good look at the driver. He was a fair-skinned with brown hair that was balding at the sides. They stopped at the nearest Arby’s to get her some fries, cheeseburger and a coke. She ate everything in the car on the way back to the airport. When they got to the airport, he waited for her to finish her meal, then she paid him his fee and tipped him fifty dollars extra for waiting. She took her duffle bag preparing to leave hanging it over her shoulders, “thank you sir”, she said and came down from the taxi. She checked her watch and saw that they had come forty- five minutes earlier. She entered through the main entrance, going straight to check-in and security. After she was done with all the necessary procedure, she went to the restroom to freshen up. “Oh I almost forgot”, she said as she brought out her phone and coat from her bag and threw the phone into the waste bin, not forgetting to wear her coat with the hood over her head to avoid being seen, and proceeded to leave the restroom. Then she waited for her flight number to be called. She closed her eyes praying to not get caught either by her mother or Damien or his people. Also looking around as if someone was watching her. About 20 minutes later, their plane was taking off on the runway. Finally, she exhaled a full breath that she had been holding in. She was free, she was free she thought to her self. She knew her father will be so proud of her decision. Closing her eyes, she finally was able to let go as her body relaxed and she fell into a deep sleep.
