The sky was already darkening when we finally crossed the borders of Detroit. The familiar streets began to appear, and a strange feeling of relief washed over me. Coming home after everything felt almost surreal. The silence in the car was different now, less heavy, more tired. We were all exhausted, but there was also a discreet peace in the air.
Stephen stopped the car in front of my house, a simple but cozy building that I had always associated with security.
