Maddie POV
My mom and Averie were in my room, making a bed for her. Averie would stay with us for a while, and my mother had already said that the next day we would buy a real bed to accommodate her. Their voices echoed downstairs in a relaxed tone. I felt like they were going to get along.
"You seem like a very practical person, Averie," said my mother. "Do you think this position is okay? I want you to be comfortable."
"It's great, Mrs. Navarro. And… thank you for having me. I don't know if many mothers would accept a stranger that easily." Averie sounded grateful but remained characteristically calm.
