Maddie POV
“What are you doing here, Derek?” I asked, shocked to see him standing in front of Stephen's car. He looked stunning as always with his alpha bad boy look, but his presence left me more shocked than the fight that happened minutes ago.
He put his hands in his pockets and gave that smug smile that only he had, opening his blue eyes so that he looked at me without blinking. “I came to protect you, Maddie. I knew Stephen wouldn’t do it right,” he replied. Those words left my heart completely confused. Protect? What did he mean by that? How did he know we were there?
Stephen, who was still standing next to me, snorted loudly. “Stop being inappropriate, Derek. I was taking very good care of her, more than you ever could.” That answer from Stephen seemed to remind me of the joke D
