[EVA'S POV]
“Dressed.” I confirmed, forcing a smile on my face.
Alpha Dane turned around, taking me in with a look of pure lust. He stepped towards me with a raised eyebrow. He was still searching for a sign from me. He could not figure out how or why I couldn’t sense our mate's bond.
“Sorry about my wolf. She seems very protective of me.” I tried to fill in the awkward tension.
“Your hair,” Alpha Dane whispered as he ran his fingers down the hair laying over my left shoulder. I winced, causing Alpha Dane to remove his hand quickly.
He only touched my hair, yet just the slightest movement of the hair on my shoulder sent a jolt of pain radiating from my shoulder. I remembered the bite mark from the wolf Ava. My shoulder was tender, but it should have healed by now. Without thinking, I pulled the robe to the side to look at the bite mark. However, there was no bite mark, instead in its place was a row of symbols. Any wolf would recognize the sigil of the Moon Goddess. The symbols were of the moon phases.
Alpha Dane let out a growl of pleasure. As if seeing my shoulder was the most erotic image he’d ever seen. My body tensed to not shiver in response. I still wasn’t sure what to do about this mate situation, but I needed to buy myself time until my wolf and I figured things out. Alpha Dane tried to run his hand along the mark, but I let out another wince before he could, causing him to retreat.
“This mark,” Alpha Dean said. I shrugged the robes back onto my shoulder. The pain shot through once again as the fabric ran across the mark.
Will this always hurt? I thought.
The pain will stop when the moon rises tomorrow. My wolf’s voice almost startled me. I was beginning to be irritated, even more, at Alpha Dane’s presence. I wanted time to chat with my wolf.
“Can I have some time to talk with my wolf?” I requested. Alpha Dane looked at me puzzled.
“Did you not chat during your run?” Alpha asked.
Don’t tell him about meeting the Goddess. My wolf suggested.
“No.” I tried to force myself to blush. “I was too excited to talk.” I lied.
That seemed to work. Alpha Dane smiled and nodded.
Alpha Dane led me back to the altar where it all began tonight. He told me he would let me sit with my wolf for a little while before coming to retrieve me. I wasn’t sure why I couldn’t just walk home by myself, but I wanted him to leave, so I could have some private time.
He’s gone. My wolf huffed. She seemed just as annoyed at his presence.
Thank Goddess. I let out a laugh.
Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. My wolf instructed.
I obediently closed my eyes. I began to focus on my breathing. Meditation is something a lot of young wolves practice. Alpha Dane is a big proponent of meditation. He would make me do meditation daily. It was very difficult as a young pup, but now it feels as natural as breathing.
I felt my breath and heart regulate. My thoughts stopped racing. I let them pass by without acknowledgment. Then it was as if I opened my eyes. I didn’t open them but there in front of me I could see my wolf. A taller white wolf. Her fur was stunning and shimmering in the moonlight. The forest around us seemed magical. The sky looked like a painting of the galaxy. Vibrant purples and blues paint the sky with way more stars than should be there. The moon seemed comically close. On my wolf’s shoulder I saw the same mark on her fur. I don’t know how I was able to see it. With her white fur, the mark was basically invisible since it was also a shade of white.
“I’ve been wanting to see your face.” My wolf’s voice danced around me. Ellie touched me with her cold snout. I smiled. I have no idea how I could feel the sensation of her cold wet nose on me. She was sniffing me and I let out a laugh as her wet nose tickled my skin.
“You’re gorgeous.” I complimented between laughs.
“Our smells have completely merged,” my wolf said, sounding proud.
“That’s normal though,” I stated, but it came out more like a question.
"It usually takes a few weeks. A wolf and their human must fully accept each other and bond.” She sat down, letting her tail wag behind her. Ellie’s excitement was contagious.
“I’m sorry if I don’t know much about this.” I apologized.
“Don’t apologize. If you were allowed a proper education like other wolf pups, you would know,” my wolf said. I could hear the irritation in her voice.
“I really want to just chat and get to know you, but we have more pressing issues,” I complained.
“You have forever to get to know me.” My wolf said, then nuzzled her big head onto my right shoulder. I couldn’t help but ruffle her ears. I was amazed that I could feel her fur as if she was in front of me.
“Our ma…” I began before Ellie cut me off.
“Let’s not call him that,” Ellie snapped.
“Sorry. Our…alpha?” I corrected only for Ellie to snort.
“Like the Goddess said, we will never have an alpha,” Ellie reminded me.
“How did you know that?” I asked. I thought my consciousness was completely separated from my wolf when I went to the Goddess.
“I am always with you.” My wolf stated as she pushed the top of her head into my chest lightly. I wrapped my arms around her big head. I hugged my wolf and felt a warm and comforting ease.
“So, what do you think about the… Dane situation?” saying his name without using his title felt so foreign to me. But I felt my stomach flutter in excitement when I said his name.
“I don’t know. I can tell a part of you likes him, but he is mated with a Luna and he…he raised you…” My wolf was clearly as conflicted as I am.
“He expects to keep me and Luna Leah though.” I didn’t like how pitiful my voice sounded.
“I’m aware. That is why I refused to acknowledge his wolf when he tried to reach out to me,” Ellie said.
“His wolf tried to communicate with you when we shifted?” I inquired. My wolf nodded, keeping her soft head pressed against me. I realized we were comforting each other at that moment.
“I just sped away from him. He has also tried to communicate with me in our spirit realm as well. I ignored his presence entirely,” My wolf explained. I was amused at the idea of Alpha Dane’s massive wolf form chasing after the swift wolf before me. My wolf was smaller than Dane’s, but her legs were long compared to most wolves I have seen. She was built for speed.
“He sent Luna Leah away for a few days too. He is expecting to have me to himself for a few days,” I muttered. My heart was aching as I remembered Alpha Dane kicking her out to have alone time with his new mate. It made me sick. My wolf nodded before speaking.
“I want to see how he acts in the next few days. I want to see what he does about Leah. I want to see how he treats us. We can continue to ignore the bond for now,” My wolf suggested. She seemed amused by the idea of ignoring the mated bond. We both know how crazy that will drive him. We were both thinking the same thing. Let him suffer.
“Before, I would have been confident he wouldn’t hurt us…but now…what if the mate bond makes him…lose control…?” I asked my wolf. She laughed.
“He can’t lay a finger on us without our permission,” My wolf explained. "Even if we ignore him. We share that bond that we will not name. He cannot act against our wishes when it comes to intimacy,” she explained. So, the mate bond will keep him from harming us. That is reassuring.
