*CHAPTER 15: THE SIGNATURE THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING*
The desk in Luna's office was covered in paper.
5000 words. Exactly 5000.
She counted it three times.
Her hands were shaking as she hovered over the `Apply for Contract` button on Dreame.
This was it. Months of running. Years of hiding. All of it came down to this click.
A knock.
"Come in," Luna said, her voice hoarse.
Damien entered. He looked like he hadn't slept in days. Because he hadn't. He'd been patrolling the borders himself since the last rogue attack.
"You okay?" he asked.
Luna turned the laptop to him. "Read this."
Damien read the screen. His eyes widened. "You hit 5000?"
"I hit 5000."
Damien let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Luna... I'm proud of you."
Luna laughed, but it came out wet. "Don't. I'll cry and ruin the moment."
"Then cry." He came around the desk and pulled her up into a hug. "You've earned it."
She did cry. Into his shirt. Not because she was sad. Because for the first time in 5 years, she wasn't running. She was building.
When she pulled back, Damien was looking at her like she hung the moon.
"Do it," he whispered. "Sign it."
Luna sat down. Her finger hovered. Then she clicked.
`Congratulations! Your work THE ALPHA'S REJECTED LUNA is now under contract.`
`Pay-to-read has been activated.`
`Royalty rate: 50%`
The words blurred.
"It's real," Luna whispered.
"It's real." Damien knelt beside her chair. "You did this. By yourself."
Luna looked at him. "We did this."
Damien shook his head. "No. You. I just watched."
Luna reached out and cupped his face. His stubble was rough against her palm. "You stayed. That's more than anyone else did."
Damien leaned into her touch. "What happens now?"
"Now we write more. Now we earn. Now we make them regret ever calling me rejected."
Damien smiled. Slow. Proud. "Then let's start chapter 16."
That night, Luna couldn't sleep. Not from fear. From possibility.
She opened a new document and typed: `CHAPTER 16`
Her wolf howled inside her. _We made it
*CHAPTER 16: BLOOD MONEY AND FIRST COINS*
The first royalty payment hit 48 hours later.
`$47.32 deposited`
Luna stared at her bank app.
$47.32.
It wasn't much. But it was hers. Earned from her words. From her pain. From her story.
Damien found her in the kitchen, making tea at 2am.
"Can't sleep?" he asked.
"I got paid," Luna said, showing him the phone.
Damien looked at the screen. Then at her. Then he picked her up and spun her around.
"You did it! The first of many!"
Luna was laughing. Really laughing. "Put me down, you i***t!"
He did, but he didn't let go. His arms stayed around her waist.
"What's next?" he asked.
"More chapters. More readers. More money." Luna's eyes were bright. "And then we buy new weapons for the pack. And better medicine. And—"
"And you rest," Damien finished.
Luna shook her head. "Can't. Alpha Cole sent another letter today."
Damien's smile dropped. "What did it say?"
Luna pulled it from her pocket.
`YOU THINK MONEY MAKES YOU SAFE? YOU'RE STILL A RUNAWAY. COME HOME OR WE'LL BRING YOU HOME.`
Damien crumpled it. "He's scared. That's why he's threatening you."
"Or he's planning something." Luna set the letter down. "We need to be ready."
The next week was a blur. Write. Publish. Reply to comments. Train. Patrol.
The coins kept coming in. $100. $300. $800.
Readers were obsessed. `The tension!!!` `When will they kiss again??` `Protect Luna at all costs!!`
Luna read every comment at night. It kept her going.
One night, Damien came to her room with two bowls of noodles.
"Celebration dinner," he said. "We hit $1000 total."
They ate on the floor, backs against the bed.
"You know what the best part is?" Damien said.
"What?"
"You don't look over your shoulder anymore."
Luna was quiet. Then: "I'm still looking. Just... less."
Damien bumped her shoulder. "I'll keep watching the doors for you."
Luna leaned her head on his shoulder. Just for a second. "Thank you."
*CHAPTER 17: THE WINTER BALL AND BROKEN RULES*
The invitation came on thick parchment. Gold seal.
`THE ANNUAL WINTER ALLIANCE BALL`
`HOSTED BY THE HIGH COUNCIL`
`ATTENDANCE: MANDATORY FOR ALL ALPHAS`
Luna threw it on the table. "I hate balls."
Damien picked it up. "We have to go. It's politics."
"Politics is just people lying in fancy clothes."
"Then let's go lie together." He winked.
Luna threw a pillow at him.
The night of the ball, the packhouse was chaos. Dresses. Suits. Wolves trying not to shed on formal wear.
Luna's dress was silver silk. It dipped low in the back and hugged her like a second skin. Her hair was up, with ice crystals woven in.
When she walked down the stairs, the entire room went quiet.
Damien was at the bottom. In a black tailored suit. No tie. His mark was visible on his neck.
His eyes dragged over her slowly. "Luna."
"What?"
"You look like you want to start a war."
"Good. Maybe I do."
He offered his arm. "Then let's go start one."
The ballroom was massive. Chandeliers. Ice sculptures. Alphas from 20 packs.
And in the corner: Alpha Cole.
He saw her. His eyes narrowed.
Luna lifted her chin and walked straight to the dance floor with Damien.
The music started. A slow waltz.
Damien's hand settled on her back. Warm. Possessive.
"You're tense," he murmured.
"My father is here."
"I know." Damien spun her. "Look at me, not him."
Luna did. God, he was beautiful when he wasn't scowling.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked.
"Because you're mine and I like reminding people."
Luna's breath caught. "Damien—"
"Shh." He pulled her closer. "One dance. No politics. Just us."
Halfway through the song, Cole cut in.
"My turn, daughter."
Damien didn't let go. "She doesn't want to."
"I wasn't asking you." Cole grabbed Luna's wrist.
Pain shot up her arm.
Luna saw red. She twisted, broke his grip, and stepped back.
"Don't touch me." Her voice echoed.
The whole room stopped.
Cole smiled. Ugly. "Still feral. Just like your mother."
Damien moved. One second he was beside Luna, the next he had Cole by the collar.
"Apologize."
"Or what?" Cole sneered.
"Or I end you right here and the Council thanks me for it."
The High Alpha stepped forward. "Enough. Damien. Release him."
Damien did. Slowly.
Cole straightened his jacket. "This isn't over."
"No," Luna said. "It isn't."
She took Damien's hand and walked out.
Outside, in the snow, Damien finally spoke. "Are you okay?"
Luna nodded. "I've been called worse."
Damien pulled her into him. "You didn't have to do that. Fight him."
"Yes I did." Luna looked up at him. "Because I'm not his daughter anymore. I'm yours. As an ally. As a partner."
Damien kissed her forehead. "As mine."
*CHAPTER 18: THE INSIDE JOB*
The attack came from the inside.
Luna woke to fire. Again.
But this time it wasn't rogues at the gate. It was someone who had the codes.
The armory was open. The cells were empty.
"Mara," Luna whispered.
Damien was already running. "She's gone. Took 3 guards with her."
Luna's stomach dropped. Mara. Damien's beta since they were kids.
They found her at the south gate. With 15 rogues.
"Mara!" Damien shouted. "What are you doing?"
Mara's face was streaked with tears. "They have my little sister, Damien. Red Moon. They said if I didn't open the gate they'd kill her."
Damien's face crumpled. "You should've told me."
"I was ashamed!" Mara screamed. "I was scared!"
Luna stepped forward. "Mara. Stand down. We'll get your sister back. I promise."
Mara looked at her. Then at the rogues behind her. "It's too late."
The fight was brutal. Fast.
Luna and Damien fought back to back, like always. But this time it hurt more. Because it was someone they knew.
When it was over, 12 rogues were dead. 3 had run.
Mara was on her knees, unarmed.
Damien walked to her. "Why?"
Mara looked up. "I'm sorry."
Damien closed his eyes. "Exile. You leave tonight. If I see you again, I won't be merciful."
Mara nodded and ran into the woods.
After, Damien punched the stone wall until his knuckles bled.
Luna grabbed his hands. "Stop."
"I failed her," he said. "I failed all of them."
"You didn't." Luna forced him to look at her. "This is war, Damien. People break in war. But we don't."
Damien pulled her into a hug so tight it hurt. "Promise me you won't break."
"I promise."
*CHAPTER 19: THE FULL MOON CLAIMING*
The full moon rose red over the mountains.
Pack law was clear: Two Alphas who survived a war together under the full moon could choose to bond. Permanently.
Luna and Damien stood on the highest cliff. Alone.
Below, both packs were watching. Waiting.
"You don't have to do this," Damien said.
"I know." Luna looked at him. Really looked. The scars. The loyalty. The way he looked at her like she was the answer to a question he'd been asking for years.
"Do you want to?" she asked.
Damien exhaled. "I've wanted to since I was 17 and you punched me for stealing your lunch."
Luna laughed. "You deserved it."
"I did." He stepped closer. "Luna Selene of the Arctic. Will you bond with me?"
Luna took his face in her hands. "Yes."
The bond snapped into place like lightning.
Damien's teeth found her neck. Not to hurt. To claim.
Luna felt it. His wolf. His mind. His heart. All of it, suddenly connected to hers.
She gasped and bit down on his neck in return.
Their marks glowed silver and gold.
The packs below howled.
When they pulled apart, both were breathing hard.
"Can you feel me?" Damien whispered.
"Yeah." Luna touched the bond in her mind. Warm. Safe. His. "I feel you."
Damien smiled. "About time."

*CHAPTER 20: DECLARATION OF WAR*
The messenger arrived at dawn.
He was young. Scared. A Red Moon wolf.
He handed Luna a scroll with shaking hands.
`TO ALPHA SELENE AND ALPHA DAMIEN`
`YOU HAVE STOLEN WHAT BELONGS TO RED MOON. YOU HAVE SHAMED OUR NAME.`
`BY THE AUTHORITY OF ALPHA COLE, I DECLARE WAR.`
`SURRENDER THE GIRL OR WE WILL TAKE HER AND BURN YOUR LANDS.`
`YOU HAVE 3 DAYS.`
Luna read it twice. Then she looked at Damien.
He read it. His jaw ticked.
"Well," he said. "That's direct."
Luna crumpled the paper. "Let him come."
The war room was full within the hour. Maps. Strategies. 300 wolves.
Luna stood at the head of the table. Damien at her side.
"This is it," she said. "The fight we've been preparing for."
One of the elders spoke up. "Alpha, Red Moon is twice our size."
"And we have something they don't," Luna said.
"What?"
"We have each other."
Damien squeezed her hand.
Luna looked at every wolf in the room. "We fight for our homes. For our pups. For our future. And we win."
A roar went up.
After the meeting, Luna and Damien stood on the balcony.
"Scared?" Damien asked.
"Terrified," Luna admitted.
"Good. Means you're smart." He pulled her close. "Whatever happens, we face it together."
Luna nodded against his chest. "Together."
In the distance, drums started.
