Esther’s chest heaved as the car came to a stop. A moan filled the space around her as she realized she’d just hit Marshall. “Marshall!” She jumped from the car, all gears firing now. Anger and frustration and desperation mixed inside her, a dangerous cocktail that felt one second away from exploding. Today had been completely out of the ordinary, and she didn’t know how to handle it. But she could call an ambulance and make sure Marshall wasn’t dead. With her phone at her ear, she knelt next to the man who’d been starring in her dreams for way too long.
