Callum My vision was blurry as I cradled Jillian against my chest. Her body convulsed and she coughed up more blood. I had to pull on an otherworldly effort to temp down the panic threatening to rise within me. Her eyes were still open but they were rapt on her father lying in front of her. I had totally forgotten about him in my distress. But when I chanced a glance in his direction, I could only stare in shock. There was a new gaping wound right between his shoulder and neck and he was coughing up more blood than Jillian. Still, instead of projecting pain, those eyes of his were manic, his hands clawing at the floor to get to us. I instantly carried Jillian a safe distance away.
