Chapter 6: The Second Awakening, A Monster Emerges

Plop! The book fell from Gina's hand, hitting the ground with a soft thud. Yet, she seemed unaware, her beautiful blue eyes constricted into pinpricks, and her palms were slick with sweat. It was as if she had witnessed a ferocious beast awaken. Gone was the scholarly, lean figure; in its place stood a dangerous individual. Fang Tianyun nonchalantly bent down, picked up the fallen book, dusted it off, and placed it on the chair. "When that day comes, I hope the process won’t be too boring, Beastmaster Gina," he muttered, his voice cryptic and indecipherable. With a wicked smile, he walked steadily forward. Thirty meters ahead lay the castle’s gate. By the time Gina snapped back to reality and turned her head, she could only see his broad back disappearing into the distance. Staring at the broken glasses on the ground, she was left speechless. Who exactly is he...? ... Finally, he arrived. Exiting the airport, Fang Tianyun stretched comfortably. Huangming City, located at the eastern border of the Ozesin Federation, was nestled between the Fengyuanling Mountain Range to the east, the Burial Desert to the south, and the Silver Sands Sea five hundred miles to the north. This was a renowned adventure city within the Federation. In contrast, Xinglun City, where Fang Tianyun had previously resided, held a status akin to Shanghai in China—an economic powerhouse ranking among the top five in the Federation. The Wilson family, a top-tier commercial family in Xinglun City, lived in private castles. In comparison, Huangming City's remote location and rugged inhabitants meant its economy couldn't compete with Xinglun, but it was a paradise for adventurers. The surrounding terrains were home to various war beasts and rare mineral resources, making it an ideal place for adventurers seeking training or fortune. This was Fang Tianyun’s destination. As for the mention of Yunfei City and Baifeng Academy? That was just a ruse to fool his family. After leaving the airport, he hailed a cab, heading to the Origin Spirit Association. Along the way, Fang Tianyun noticed many people carrying staffs and large swords. Occasionally, someone would be hawking Origin Spirit Stones or other treasures by the roadside. By the time he arrived, the sun was setting, and dusk was settling in. Glancing at the time, he saw he was still in time. Inside the Origin Spirit Association, Wang Qin sat idly in his office chair, boredly staring at the wall clock. In five minutes, he would be off duty. Typically, two people would work weekend shifts, but his fellow mage colleague had an emergency, leaving Wang Qin alone. One minute left! Wang Qin stretched, ready to leave, when a tall, black-haired young man appeared before him. "Who are you...?" "Hello, I'm here for the awakening ceremony." Perfect timing... Despite his internal grumbling, Wang Qin maintained his professional demeanor and sat at his computer. "Give me your ID card and press your hand on the fingerprint stone." The ID card functioned like a personal ID, while the fingerprint stone provided a second layer of security to protect personal privacy. Following the instructions, Fang Tianyun saw his personal information displayed on the screen. "Hmm?" Wang Qin thought he had misread the screen and leaned closer. But after confirming the information, he looked at Fang Tianyun in shock. "You had an awakening ceremony just a year ago. You need to wait four more years before your next one." Wang Qin assumed the young man had lost his mind, unable to cope with the previous ceremony’s failure. Many who failed the awakening ceremony fell into despair, crying, howling, and sometimes even seeking death. Slap— A thick wad of cash landed in front of Wang Qin. "The awakening ceremony is straightforward. Just activate the array and record it. The five-year interval is a guideline, not a rule." This... Eyeing the ten thousand star coins, Wang Qin was tempted. As Fang Tianyun said, the five-year interval was a guideline, not a regulation, and conducting another ceremony wasn’t illegal. Easy money. Why not? "Are you sure you want to go through with the awakening ceremony? It’s only been a year since your last failure. You’re risking a lot..." Fang Tianyun cut him off, "Just start the ceremony. Don’t worry about anything else." Wang Qin sighed. He had warned him. If the boy insisted, he couldn't be blamed for any failure. Pocketing the money, Wang Qin led the way. "Beastmaster?" Wang Qin asked. "Yes." No surprise there; it was the most popular choice. After navigating several turns, they reached the designated room. In the spacious room, a complex array was painted on the floor. Without prompting, Fang Tianyun sat cross-legged in the center of the array. "Begin," he said calmly. Wang Qin activated the cylindrical switch, and the array began to glow. Simultaneously, Fang Tianyun felt a powerful suction pulling at his core. This time, he wouldn’t hold back. With a loud bang, blue Origin Spirit energy erupted from Fang Tianyun like flames. The intense shockwave knocked Wang Qin to the ground, his eyes wide in disbelief. “What the hell?!” In all his years conducting awakening ceremonies, he had never seen such a surge of Origin Spirit energy. Fang Tianyun, focused and following the array’s guidance, progressed smoothly. His extraordinary control over his Origin Spirit energy made the process seamless. While others relied on the array to guide their energy, Fang Tianyun’s energy outpaced the array’s guidance... Soon, he felt a stirring in his consciousness. Success! War Beast Space, open! With a mental shout, a black space expanded in his mind... Meanwhile, the wall-mounted display connected to the array showed numbers climbing steadily. At 10, Wang Qin’s mouth formed an “O.” At 15, he was stunned. At 20, he couldn’t contain himself. “Impossible!” Despite his disbelief, the numbers kept rising. When the display finally stopped at 30, Wang Qin was in shock. Smack! He slapped himself several times, the pain confirming he wasn’t dreaming. Monster, where did this monster come from? Looking at the tall figure rising from the array, Wang Qin felt his legs go weak, his throat dry. The display’s numbers indicated the size of the War Beast Space in magims. Newly awakened Beastmasters typically had a space size between 5 to 10 magims. Above 10 magims was considered genius level. In Huangming City, the record for the largest War Beast Space at an initial awakening was 16 magims. Yet, this black-haired boy... He shattered all expectations.
