TAKING A CHANCE

Maya's words echoed in May's mind as she walked home from school. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was meant to take a chance on Jamie.

As she approached her front door, May's phone buzzed with a text from Maya. "Hey, May! I just saw Jamie's post on social media. He's going to be at the school's spring festival tomorrow. Want to 'accidentally' run into him?"

May's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. This could be her chance to take a chance. She took a deep breath and typed out a response. "Yes, let's do it!"

The next day, May and Maya arrived at the spring festival, excited and a little nervous. They had spent hours getting ready, trying on different outfits and doing each other's hair.

As they walked through the festival gates, May's eyes scanned the crowds, searching for Jamie. She spotted him at a food stall, laughing with his friends.

Maya nudged her playfully. "Go get him, May!"

May took a deep breath and started walking towards Jamie, her heart pounding in her chest. As she approached, Jamie turned around and caught her eye, flashing a bright smile.

May's cheeks flushed, and she felt her nervousness melt away. Maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something special.

Jamie walked towards May, his smile growing wider. "Hey, May! What brings you to the festival?"

May shrugged, trying to play it cool. "Just enjoying the food and music, I guess."

Jamie nodded, falling into step beside her. "Yeah, it's a great event. I come every year."

They walked in comfortable silence for a moment, taking in the sights and sounds of the festival. Then Jamie spoke up again.

"Hey, May? Can I ask you something?"

May's heart skipped a beat as she turned to him, curious. "Sure, what is it?"

Jamie's eyes locked onto May's, his expression serious. "I was wondering... do you believe in fate?"

May's eyebrows shot up in surprise. She hadn't expected that question. "Uh, I'm not sure," she replied, stalling for time.

Jamie nodded thoughtfully. "I've been thinking about it a lot lately. Ever since we collided in the hallway, I've been wondering if it was more than just an accident."

May's heart skipped a beat as she met Jamie's gaze. Was he hinting at something more?

Maya, who had been watching from a distance, swooped in, curiosity getting the better of her. "Ooh, fate? That's deep, Jamie. What made you think of that?"

Jamie smiled, his eyes never leaving May's face. "I don't know, it's just that sometimes I feel like there are connections between people that go beyond coincidence."

May's heart fluttered as she listened to Jamie's words. She had been feeling the same way, like there was something special between them.

Maya nodded enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I totally believe in that! Like, have you ever met someone and just felt like you've known them forever?"

Jamie nodded, his gaze still locked on May's. "Exactly. And I feel like that with May."

May's cheeks flushed, and she looked away, trying to play it cool. But inside, she was thrilled. Was Jamie actually feeling the same way?

The air was electric with tension as Jamie's words hung in the air. May couldn't help but sneak a glance at him, her heart racing with excitement.

Maya, sensing the chemistry between them, discreetly excused herself, leaving May and Jamie alone.

As they stood there, the sounds of the festival fading into the background, May felt a spark of attraction ignite between them.

Jamie took a step closer, his eyes locked on hers. "May, can I ask you something else?"

May's voice barely above a whisper, she replied, "Yeah, what is it?"

Jamie's voice was low and husky as he asked, "Would you like to grab some ice cream with me? Maybe take a walk around the festival?"

May's heart skipped a beat as she processed the invitation. It wasn't a date, exactly... but it felt like it.

She nodded, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, that sounds nice."

Jamie grinned, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Great! I'll go get us some ice cream."

As Jamie walked away, May couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. What was happening here? Was this the start of something special?
