BEFORE ME

613 Words
Therapy was definitely hearing raindrops hit gently on your roof, the smell of wet soil and being buried under a cozy duvet gifted to you on your eighteenth birthday by your favorite aunt lala. But then knowing you've got school the next day might just be the highlight to ruin it. phew! May Chen trudged through the school gates, her eyes scanning the crowded hallway with a mix of disdain and boredom. Another day, another dollar – or rather, another day, another pointless lesson. She hated school. Hated the monotony, hated the conformity, hated the way it sucked the creativity out of her soul. But most of all, she hated the way it made her feel: trapped, suffocated, and utterly powerless. May's phone buzzed in her pocket, a text from her best friend, Maya: "Hey girl, meet me at lunch. I have a plan" May's heart skipped a beat. Maya's plans usually involved skipping class, sneaking out of school, or some other form of rebellion. May was so down. Jamie Reyes sat on the floor of his bedroom, surrounded by paint-splattered canvases, half-finished sculptures, and scraps of paper covered in lyrics. He was a creative genius, or so his friends told him. Jamie's parents wanted him to focus on his studies, get into a good college, and secure a stable future. But Jamie's heart wasn't in it. He wanted to make art, music, and a difference. As he strummed the chords of his guitar, Jamie felt a sense of freedom, of release. This was who he was meant to be – a creator, a rebel, a force to be reckoned with. May and Jamie collided in the school hallway, literally. May was rushing to her class, Jamie was walking in the opposite direction, and they smashed into each other, books and papers flying everywhere. As they bent down to pick up the scattered papers, their eyes met, and May felt a jolt of electricity run through her veins. Who was this guy? Jamie smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Hey, sorry about that. I'm Jamie." May's heart skipped a beat. "I'm May." And just like that, their worlds collided. "I'm so sorry" she said offering to help him pack up his littered papers. But these weren't just papers, they contained literally creative masterpieces. And there was Maya, pacing around my locker. "oh dearest May I saw what pulled up over there hehehe. Just like what happens in the movies" she was surely teasing me. "Girlll! come over it, it was just an unprecedented collision" I proceeded to ask her about the plan she texted me about. As usual she wanted us to attend a music concert. When it came to music and entertainment; Maya fell head over heals. "I got two tickets for us bae hehehe. You wouldn't even want to know how much they cost, costs your entire week expense so you dare not turn me down" When it came to spending on concerts,Maya aced, that too being a social media freak; she needed these for her contents. " Fine I'd tag along" I mean,I always do. I kept reminiscing about the guy from earlier through out each class. He had that perfect masculine figure and those eyes that could cause a hold up. But heyyy, I'm not thinking about a guy am I? And the highlight of what brightens my day, hearing that Bell ring for closure.phew! Her phone buzzed from inside her jacket.A text from Maya "Bae! check my t****k,I just aced 500k followers, duh!". Reading this the Maya would say it, she was probably giggling. I mean, rating how much consistency she devotes on the app, she definitely deserved it.
