A DIFFICULT CHOICE

914 Words
May knew she had to make a decision about whether to follow Jamie to another city or stay in Las Vegas for college. She spent the next few days weighing her options, thinking about the pros and cons of each choice. Her mom was supportive, but also realistic. "You have to think about what's best for you, sweetie," she said. "You can't just give up on your dreams for someone else." May knew her mom was right. She had always dreamed of studying nursing, and she couldn't just abandon those plans. But at the same time, she couldn't bear the thought of being apart from Jamie. As she sat in her room, staring at her college brochures and Jamie's acceptance letter, May felt overwhelmed. She didn't know what to do, and she felt like she was being pulled in two different directions. Just then, her phone buzzed with a text from Jamie. "Hey, can we talk?" he asked. May's heart skipped a beat as she read the message. She knew she had to talk to him, but she wasn't sure what to say. May took a deep breath and called Jamie. She needed to talk to him about her concerns and fears. "Hey," Jamie said, answering on the first ring. "I've been thinking about us a lot lately." May's heart skipped a beat as she heard the sincerity in his voice. "Me too," she replied, trying to sound calm. "I know this is a big decision," Jamie said. "And I don't want you to feel like you have to choose between me and your dreams." May felt a lump form in her throat as she heard the understanding in his voice. "I don't know what to do," she admitted. Jamie took a deep breath on the other end of the line. "We can make this work, May. We can do long distance or find a way to make it work. I just want to be with you." May's heart melted at his words. She knew she felt the same way about him. But she still had doubts and fears. "What if we grow apart?" she asked, voicing her biggest fear. Jamie paused for a moment before responding. "I don't think that's going to happen," he said. "We're strong, May. We can make this work." May took a deep breath. "I really want you to come with me," Jamie said, his voice filled with longing. "But I know it's a big decision." May took a deep breath and tried to explain her thoughts. "I wish I could go with you, Jamie. But I have to think about my future, and my plans for college." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and May could sense Jamie's disappointment. "I've always dreamed of studying nursing here in Las Vegas," May continued. "And I've already started looking into programs. I couldn't just give up on that." Jamie's voice was softer when he spoke again. "I get it, May. I know how much this means to you." May felt a lump form in her throat as she talked to Jamie. "I want to be with you, but I have to think about what's best for me right now." May's mom, walked into the room where May was talking on the phone. She could tell that May was having a serious conversation with Jamie. "Who's that?" Maya asked, nodding towards the phone. May covered the phone with her hand. "It's Jamie," she replied. "We're talking about his graduate program." Maya's expression turned concerned. "How's that going?" she asked. May sighed. "It's complicated. He wants me to go with him, but I don't know if that's the right decision for me." Maya sat down next to May. "You know I'm always here to support you, sweetie. But you have to think about what's best for your own future." May nodded, feeling grateful for her mom's guidance. "I know, Mom. I'm just trying to figure out what's right for me." Maya put a reassuring hand on May's shoulder. "We'll figure it out together, okay?" Juliet looked at her daughter with a concerned expression. "I just want to make sure you're thinking clearly about this, sweetie. You have your whole life ahead of you, and you need to make decisions that are right for you." May nodded, feeling a sense of understanding. "I know, Mom. And I appreciate your guidance. It's just hard to think about being apart from Jamie." Juliet's expression softened. "I know it's hard, sweetie. But sometimes you have to make tough decisions. And I trust that you'll make the right choice for yourself." May felt a sense of comfort with her mom's words. She knew that Juliet was always there to support her, no matter what. As they sat there together, May's conversation with Jamie came to a close. "I have to go, Jamie," she said. "My mom is here, and we need to talk about some things." Jamie's voice was understanding on the other end of the line. "Okay, May. We'll talk later, okay?" May nodded, even though Jamie couldn't see her. "Yeah, okay. Bye." As May hung up the phone, Juliet looked at her with a curious expression. "So, what's going to happen with you and Jamie?" she asked. Jamie and I had just started dating for a few weeks, but it felt like I had known him all my life. The memories we shared came rolling over, what did the future hold?
