ISABELLA —
I couldn't let Sofia and I be dragged into his dangerous world without knowing the truth.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped out of the shadows and walked towards him, my voice steady. "Enzo, we need to talk."
He turned to face me, his expression a mix of surprise and frustration. "Isabella, I thought you were asleep."
"I overheard your argument," I said, my voice tinged with concern. "What is going on? What are you involved in?"
Enzo sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Isabella, there are things about me that you don't know. Things that I've done... things that I regret. I was hoping to keep them in the past, away from you and Sofia."
I felt a pang of sadness at his words, realizing that there was more to Enzo than met the eye. But I wasn't about to let him off the hook that easily. "I deserve to know, Enzo."
He looked at me, his eyes filled with a mixture of pain and determination. "You're right, Isabella. It's time for me to be honest with you. But just know, no matter what I tell you, my love for you and Sofia will never change."
"Daddy". Sofia called from behind making me groan while Enzo smiled…I know he was expecting a distraction and Sofia perfectly distracted me.
"Why are you awake all of a sudden?" I questioned squirting down to her size and pulling her closer to me so all her attention won't be fixed on Enzo.
"I want to spend the night with daddy." She insisted with sleepy eyes.
" But it's already midnight and your daddy seems a bit busy." I said looking back at Enzo giving him signs to refuse her request.
"Your mother is right Sofia, it's already past midnight and I am busy." Enzo said to her making me smile at least he agreed with me for once.
"Does that means you would leave us again because you are busy?" Sofia asked making Enzo squirt beside me with her face in his hands.
" I made a promise not to leave and I won't break that promise and also you now leave with me meaning I can't ever be too busy and no matter how busy I become I would always come back home to you." Enzo said to her, hugging her tightly.
"You have to take your nap now so you can be up early tomorrow." I added but as expected Enzo picks her up and slowly exit the room with me behind them.
"Daddy please let me spend the night with you." Sofia pleaded. Enzo turns to me with a pleading face, which clearly meant he was accepting her request despite my warnings.
"Enzo." I cooed.
"Please Isabella." He pleaded with him and Sofia making the same facial expression at me, they looked so alike despite the clear fact that they weren't related.
"Fine, do whatever you want." I said walking ahead of them to my bedroom, I could hear Sofia squilling happily from behind before I entered my bedroom.
The next day, I woke up with mixed emotions. Part of me was still processing what I had overheard the previous night, and the other part was dreading the idea of Sofia being exposed to Enzo's dangerous world. I knew that he was trying to protect us, but I couldn't shake the feeling that it was only a matter of time before everything unraveled.
As I got ready for the day, I made a decision that I hoped would keep Sofia safe. I would plead with Enzo to let her stay with her nanny instead of bringing her to the office. It was the least I could do to ensure her well-being, even if it meant going against Enzo's wishes.
When I made my way downstairs, Sofia and Enzo were already waiting for me in the sitting room. Sofia looked excited, her eyes wide with anticipation. Enzo, on the other hand, seemed tense and focused.
"Daddy, can I come with you to the office today?" Sofia asked, her voice filled with hope.
I took a deep breath, preparing myself for the battle ahead. "Sofia, I think it would be best if you stayed with your nanny today. Daddy has a lot of important work to do, and it might not be safe for you to be there."
Sofia's face fell, her excitement turning into disappointment. "But I want to be with Daddy."
Enzo sighed and looked at me, his eyes pleading with me to understand. "Isabella, I need her to be with me. I can't bear the thought of something happening to her outside of my watch."
"But Enzo, you know how dangerous your work can be," I argued, my voice filled with concern. "I don't want Sofia to be exposed to that."
Enzo's expression hardened, and I could see the frustration in his eyes. "Isabella, we can't pretend that the danger doesn't exist. I can't promise that everything will be okay, but what I can promise is that I will do everything in my power to protect her. I can't let her be a target for my enemies."
I wanted to argue further, to make him see reason, but I knew deep down that it was a lost cause. Enzo had made up his mind, and I couldn't change it. Reluctantly, I nodded, conceding to his wishes.
"Fine, but promise me that you'll keep her safe," I said, my voice filled with a mix of worry and resignation.
Enzo's face softened, and he walked towards me, pulling me into a comforting embrace. "I promise, Isabella. I'll do everything in my power to protect both of you."
Despite my doubts and concerns, I held onto that promise, hoping that Enzo's love for Sofia would be enough to keep her safe in this dangerous world he was a part of.
As we made our way to the office, I couldn't help but notice the stares and whispers from Enzo's employees. It was clear that our arrival in such a grand style was causing quite a buzz. I tried to ignore the gossiping and focused on Sofia, who seemed unfazed by the attention.
Once we reached Enzo's office, It was clear that Enzo held a lot of power and influence in this world, but I couldn't help but wonder at what cost.
As the day progressed, I watched Enzo in action, managing his job with calculated precision. It was a side of him that I hadn't seen before, and it both scared and fascinated me. I couldn't deny the attraction I felt for him, but at the same time, I couldn't ignore the danger that came with it.
As the hours passed, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was brewing beneath the surface. There was an unease in the air, a tension that hung heavy in the room. I knew that Enzo was involved in something dangerous, and I couldn't help but fear the consequences it would have on our lives.
I tried my best to focus on my work, but the whispers and judgmental glances from my colleagues were distracting. It seemed that my proximity to Enzo was causing quite a stir among them. I couldn't blame them, really. They didn't know the whole story. To them, it seemed like I was using Sofia as a pawn to get closer to Enzo, and I couldn't blame them for thinking that.
But little did they know the turmoil and internal struggle I was going through. Being with Enzo wasn't what I had planned for myself or Sofia. It was a complicated situation that I was desperately trying to navigate. My priority was always Sofia's safety and well-being, but it seemed like every decision I made was met with doubt and criticism.
As the day wore on, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to happen. The tension in the air was palpable, and it made me on edge. I looked over at Sofia, who was happily playing in her corner of the office, unaware of the turmoil surrounding her.
I decided to make a quick trip to the restroom to collect my thoughts. As I entered, I was surprised to find Angela, my colleague, standing by the sink, her eyes red and puffy from crying.
"Angela, are you okay?" I asked, concern lacing my voice as I approached her.
She looked up at me, her eyes filled with sadness. "Isabella, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to judge you. I had no idea what you were going through."
I reached out and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's alright, Angela. I understand why you would think the way you do. But I want you to know that I'm just trying to protect Sofia, just like any mother would."
Angela nodded, her tears falling freely. "I have a daughter too. I would do anything to keep her safe."
A surge of empathy washed over me, and I pulled Angela into a comforting embrace. As we stood there, hugging each other in the bathroom, I realized that we were not so different after all. We were both mothers trying to navigate the complexities of life and protect our children.
After a few moments, we pulled away, wiping our tears away. "Thank you, Isabella," Angela said, her voice filled with gratitude.
"You're welcome, Angela. We're all in this together," I replied, offering her a small smile.
When I returned to my desk, I noticed that the tension in the office had escalated. People seemed more restless, whispering amongst themselves, and occasionally glancing in Enzo's direction. I knew that something was brewing, and I couldn't shake the feeling of impending danger.
I approached Enzo, my voice filled with urgency. "Enzo, something doesn't feel right. We need to leave. It's not safe."
Enzo turned to me, his eyes filled with concern. "Isabella, what do you mean? What's going on?"
"I don't know, but I can feel it in the air. We need to go, Enzo," I pleaded, desperation creeping into my voice.
Enzo hesitated for a moment, weighing his options. Finally, he nodded, making a decision. "Alright, let's go. Sofia, come with us."
Sofia looked up from her play, sensing the tension in the room. "What's happening, Daddy?"
Enzo scooped her up into his arms, his voice filled with determination. "We need to leave, princess. It's not safe here right now."
As we made our way out of the office, I couldn't help but feel a mix of relief and fear. Relief that we were getting out of there,
ENZO —
I don't know what came over Isabella but it seemed like she could sense something coming that even I couldn't feel.
Just when we got close to the car and the guards were about to open the door for Isabella my phone vibrated, I was a little hesitant to take it but Isabella claimed to feel something I wasn't sure of so I took a quick glance at my phone and it was a message from Alex.
Rodrigo is on your trail and he sent a warning about his men which we caught, he said a man for a man
Were the words written by Alex making me look around in panic and truly the people around us were awkwardly in a weird position.
"Isabella get in." I ordered but Isabella stares at me confused as I hand over Sofia to her.
"Enzo, why would we leave you here?" She questioned.
"Just obey my order, I need to take care of something." I said to Isabella who slowly placed Sofia in the car.
"Take them to the mansion immediately no stopping." I said to the driver and guards who nod in response.
"Please be safe Enzo." She pleaded.
"Just go." I added as she nods getting into the car as I slammed the door.
Rodrigo made a decision to play the game in my territory and I won't let him go Scott free like that.
