Enzo—-
I dropped Sofia on my desk and instructed my secretary to watch over her as I hurried after Aurora, I got closer to her at the exit when I saw Miguel walking up to her and I decided to eavesdrop on their conversation.
I couldn't believe what I had just heard, Miguel was trying to make Aurora hate me because I own the company, I was definitely not the kind if person who just hide away while my best friend talk s**t about me so I decided to step out.
"Miguel." I called just when Aurora asked who Sofia's mother was.
"Enzo." He replied nervously walking up to me.
"I thought you would be upstairs with Sofia?" Miguel asked nervously as I chuckled.
"I had to chase after Aurora, I won't just let her leave that way thinking I am a had person." I said staring at Aurora from time to time as she still seemed angry.
"Have you been there all this while?" Miguel asked, I nodded with a smirk on my face as I walked passed him to Aurora.
"Should I cancel the engagement, you seem to have no interest in me and as you heard. Miguel said I was in love with Sofia's mother and I am sure you believed him." I said to her making her open her eyes widely in shock.
After hearing Aurora question me about Sofia's mother, my heart sank. The truth was, she was right to doubt me. I had kept this secret from her, and now it had come back to haunt me.
But instead of acknowledging the truth, I decided to push her away. The hurt and anger I felt towards Miguel clouded my judgment, and I couldn't bear to see the disappointment in Aurora's eyes.
"Maybe Miguel is right," I said, my voice filled with bitterness. "Maybe I am in love with Sofia's mother. Maybe I should just let you go."
Aurora's eyes filled with tears, and she looked at me with a mixture of hurt and confusion. "Is that what you really want, Enzo? To end our engagement because you've hidden this from me?"
Deep down, I didn't want to end our engagement. I cared about Aurora . But my fear of rejection and my anger towards Miguel had clouded my judgment.
"Just leave, Aurora," I said, my voice barely a whisper. "You deserve someone better, someone who isn't burdened with such secrets."
She stood there, her gaze locked with mine, and for a moment, it felt like time stood still. But then she took a step forward, reaching out to touch my arm.
"No, Enzo," she said, her voice filled with determination. "I refuse to let you push me away like this. We may be facing challenges, but that doesn't mean we can't overcome them. I love you, and I believe in us."
"How can you love someone you don't know so well?" I questioned her.
"I came here to make or relationship work, my father told me how much effort I had to put in all this to gain your trust." She pleaded. Her words struck a chord within me, breaking down the walls of anger and hurt I had built around myself. I looked at her, my eyes filled with both regret and longing.
"I'm sorry, Aurora," I said, my voice shaky. "I should have trusted you with the truth. I should have given you the chance to decide for yourself. Can you forgive me?"
Aurora nodded, her tears mixing with a small smile. "Yes, Enzo. But you have to promise me that from now on, we will be honest and open with each other. No more secrets, no more lies."
I reached out and held her hands in mine, feeling a surge of gratitude and love. "I promise, Aurora. I will do everything in my power to be the man you deserve."
With that, we embraced, holding onto each other tightly.as I much as I needed to assure her with her hug, I just wasn't feeling any emotions whatsoever for her u just hope when I get married to her I might come to understand her and love her fir who she really is .
But there was still one matter that needed to be addressed - Miguel's betrayal. I turned my attention towards him, a cold, determined glint in my eyes.
I went back to my office after sending Sofia off,I could clearly feeling Miguel behind me as I went back to my office but I wasn't ready to yell at him in the presence of everyone.
So I waited patiently till I reached my office and took a seat, staring directly at Miguel who had his Head down.
"Miguel," I said, my voice filled with authority. "I trusted you with everything - my company, my secrets. And yet, you betrayed me by trying to push Aurora away. Why?"
Miguel's face turned pale, and he stammered, struggling to find the right words. "I... I thought I was doing what was best for you, Enzo. I thought if Aurora found out the truth, she would leave you."
I shook my head, my voice stern. "That was not your decision to make, Miguel. You had no right to interfere in my personal life. And as of now, you are relieved of your duties as the CEO of my company. I can no longer trust you."
Miguel's eyes widened in shock, and he opened his mouth to protest. But I held up my hand, cutting him off.
"No more excuses, Miguel," I said firmly. "You have crossed a line, and there will be consequences for your actions. Leave my office, and don't come back."
"Please Enzo you can't sack me, you know this job is all I have got." Miguel pleaded.
"I wasn't sacking you, I want you to take a break for the main time and maybe return as the head manager, do not worry the company would still stay under your name and your salary won't change. I just think it's high time I made some amendment to this company." I said to him making him smile slowly going down to his knee's but I stopped him.
"Don't thank me, no matter what you are still my best friend."I said to him.
"Thank you so much, I would make them prepare your office and the ceremony." Miguel said with a wide smile still on his face.
"Thank you Miguel." I said to him, at least this would serve as a warning to Miguel if he tries to take any drastic steps with Isabella.
As Miguel walked out of the office, a sense of relief washed over me. I had made the right decision, both for myself and for Aurora. From now on, I would protect what mattered most to me - Sofia and our future together.
But there was still work to be done. I turned to my phone contemplating on whether or not to call Aurora, a serious expression on my face. I dailed her number and she picked up immediately.
"Aurora, there is something I need to tell you," I said, my voice filled with urgency. "There is more to my involvement with the mafia than you know. It's dangerous, and it could put both of us at risk. I need you to understand, and I need you to trust me."
Aurora was silent for a while before finally speaking up. "Enzo, I may not fully understand the extent of your involvement, but I trust you. We will face the dangers together, just like we have faced everything else." She said to me as I smiled.
"Thanks, I think we should start preparing for our engagement soon." I said to her clearly aware of how happy she would be now.
"Goodbye then." I said ending the call.
I really wished I could tell things like this to Isabella, tell her who I really am and make her accept me and love me.
And as for Isabella, that was a chapter that was yet to be resolved. But one thing was certain - our love would not be shaken by secrets and complications..
Isabella —
Miguel was stepping down, this made a huge impact in the office.
After the shocking turn of events at the office, I couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, I was relieved that Miguel had stepped down as the CEO, knowing that it would lessen the chances of him causing any harm to Sofia or me. But on the other hand, I was anxious about who the new owner and CEO would be.
I found out about Miguel's decision when I received a call from one of my colleagues, who informed me that there would be a welcoming ceremony for the new owner of the company. As Miguel's assistant, it was my responsibility to help organize the event. Little did I know of who the new owner would turn out to be,
When I arrived at work the next day, the office was buzzing with excitement. Everyone was talking about the new owner and speculating about who it could be. I couldn't help but feel a knot in my stomach as I walked through the halls, knowing that Enzo would be there.
As I reached my desk, I saw a note from Miguel, instructing me to meet him in the conference room. I hesitated for a moment, considering whether I should go or not. But curiosity got the better of me, and I made my way to the conference room.
When I entered the room, Miguel was there, along with a few other colleagues. They all turned to look at me, surprise evident on their faces.
"Isabella," Miguel said, a warm smile on his face. "I'm glad you could join us. Take a seat."
I sat down, feeling a mix of nervousness and anticipation. Miguel cleared his throat, and the room fell silent.
"I have an important announcement to make," Miguel began. "As you all know, I have been the CEO of this company for many years. But today, I am stepping down from my position."
Gasps of surprise filled the room, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. Despite everything that had happened between us, Miguel had always been there for me, and I couldn't ignore the fact that I would miss him.
"But don't worry," Miguel continued, a mischievous glint in his eyes. "I am not leaving the company completely. Instead, I will be taking on a new role as the head manager. And the new owner and CEO of the company is none other than Enzo."
The room erupted in a mix of applause and chatter, but I sat there stunned, unable to process what I had just heard. Enzo,it can't be. Could it be that he ended up buying the company for himself like he said to me the other night?
As everyone began to disperse, Miguel walked up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I know this must be a shock, Isabella," he said, his voice filled with concern. "But trust me when I say that Enzo has changed. Give him a chance, just like you gave me."
I looked into Miguel's eyes, seeing the sincerity and hope behind them. Maybe he was right. Maybe Enzo had changed. But why would he buy the company I work at ?
As the day went on, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. The thought of working under Enzo's authority, what would people think, he wasn't even the owner if the company before and people won't let us breath in peace.
But deep down, there was a part of me that wanted to believe in second chances. Maybe this was an opportunity for both of us to start over, to build a better relationship based on honesty and trust.
With that thought in mind, I made a decision. I would attend the welcoming ceremony for Enzo, not as his friend, but as a professional and determined employee.
