Isabella —
As the day of the ceremony arrived, I put on my best dress and stepped into the venue, my heart pounding with nervousness. The room was filled with people, all eagerly waiting to meet the new owner.
I scanned the room, my eyes landing on Enzo. He was talking to some of the employees, his demeanor confident and authoritative. I couldn't deny that he looked handsome and powerful, but I reminded myself to stay focused on my work.
As the ceremony began, Enzo took the stage, and a hush fell over the room. He thanked everyone for their support and expressed his excitement about leading the company into the future.
"And lastly," Enzo said, his eyes scanning the crowd. "I want to express my gratitude to Miguel. He has been a loyal friend and an invaluable asset to this company. I couldn't have done this without him."
One of the reporters raised their hands up to Enzo which was something I was expecting.
"Yes." Enzo asked making the reporter step forward.
"Mr Enzo Ferrari, you still haven't told us why you bought the company and why it's still in Mr Miguel Galiano name?" The reporter asked making me happy, finally I would get the answer to why he bought the company.
To my surprise Enzo chuckled staring at me for a split second.
"This corporation was founded by me and my sweat and hard work, it had always been mine from day one…. I only have it to Miguel because I wasn't ready to be a CEO and wanted to know my workers better and Miguel did a good job as a CEO of my company." Enzo said to the reporter as they whispered to themselves meanwhile Enzo eyes were on Miguel as he smiled and nodded at Miguel And Miguel smiled and nodded back at him, his eyes briefly meeting mine. I returned the smile, silently thanking him for his support.
After the ceremony, Enzo began to mingle with the attendees, shaking hands and making small talk. I watched from afar, unsure of how to approach him. But then, our eyes met, and he made his way towards me.
"Isabella," Enzo said, his voice filled with warmth. "It's been a long time."
"Yes, it has," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady. "Congratulations on becoming the new owner and CEO."
Enzo smiled, his eyes softening. "Thank you. "His words took me by surprise, and I couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe this was the chance we needed to finally heal and move forward.
"I appreciate, Enzo," I said, my voice filled with sincerity. "But actions speak louder than words. I hope that you truly mean what you say and that we can work towards building a better relationship, both personally and professionally."
Enzo nodded, his eyes filled with determination. "I mean every word, Isabella. I am committed to making things right and earning back your trust. Let's start over, as boss and employee, and see where it takes us."
Just when we were about to exchange handshakes, I sighted Aurora walking in with a grand style.
" I need to go now ". I said to Enzo but instead he gripped tightly to my hands.
As Enzo held onto my hands tightly, I could sense the confusion and concern in his eyes. He knew that something was off, that there was more to my sudden departure, but I couldn't bring myself to tell him the truth about my relationship with Aurora.
"Is everything alright?" Enzo asked, his grip tightening even more.
"Yes, everything's fine," I lied, trying to hide the panic in my voice. "I just remembered that I have some urgent work to attend to. I'll catch up with you later."
Before he had a chance to respond, I pulled my hands away from his grasp and hurriedly made my way through the crowd, hoping to find a safe place to hide from Aurora.
As I found a secluded corner, my mind raced with thoughts of how I could prevent Aurora from finding out about Enzo and me. It seemed impossible, considering her knack for uncovering secrets and her intuition when it came to matters of the heart.
But I was determined to protect her. I couldn't bear the thought of her heart breaking, knowing that she was engaged to the man I had fallen in love with. I had to find a way to keep our connection hidden.
As the evening wore on, I observed from my hiding spot as Enzo mingled with the attendees, including Aurora. They exchanged pleasantries and laughter, completely oblivious to the fact that they were connected through me. It was bittersweet to witness their interaction, knowing the truth that lay beneath the surface.
But my mission to protect Aurora was put to a test when Enzo looked in my direction, a questioning gaze in his eyes. He seemed torn between introducing us or keeping our relationship a secret. I held my breath, praying that he would choose the latter.
To my relief, Enzo turned his attention away from me, sparing me the agony of facing my sister in that moment. I knew that this wouldn't be the end, that eventually, they would meet and the truth would unravel.
But for now, I continued to hide, keeping my distance, and hoping that fate would intervene to keep our secret safe.
And just when I thought hiding would make things easier, Sofia had to be invited by Enzo and she arrived in style.
This definitely isn't going to end well because Aurora had a fierce look on her face as she stared at Sofia who was continuously shouting Daddy at Enzo who picks her up and hugs her, making everyone stare at the both of them, this was the first time that this much crowd witness the both of them together.
"We meet again." Aurora said to Sofia as they both stared at each other like they were murdering each other internally.
As I watched Aurora and Sofia lock eyes, a wave of panic washed over me. I knew that Aurora was perceptive, and it wouldn't take long for her to make the connection between Sofia and me. I had to act quickly to prevent a disaster from unfolding.
I waited for Aurora to be distracted and leave Enzo side but Enzo ended up leaving the room and entering another as I followed them.
I approached Sofia, who was still in Enzo's arms, and plastered a smile on my face, trying to hide the tension coursing through me.
"Sofia, sweetheart, it's time to go," I said, my voice as calm as I could muster. "We have somewhere to be."
Sofia looked at me with confusion in her eyes. She had always been accustomed to spending time with Enzo, and this sudden end to their interaction baffled her.
"But I want to stay with Daddy," Sofia whined, her voice full of longing.
I knelt down so that we were at eye level and spoke softly, hoping she would understand.
"I know, baby, but we have to go," I said, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "We have some important things to take care of. Daddy will understand."
Sofia's eyes filled with tears, and my heart ached at the sight. But I couldn't let her stay there, not when the truth was so close to being revealed.
As I reached out to take Sofia from Enzo's arms, I could see the hurt and confusion etched in his face. He had no idea what was happening, why I was abruptly taking Sofia away.
"Isabella, what's going on?" Enzo asked, his voice filled with worry.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm raging inside me. I couldn't tell him the truth, not now, not when everything was so fragile.
"I...I can't explain right now," I stammered, tears welling up in my eyes. "Just know that I'm doing what's best for Sofia."
Enzo's eyes searched mine, pleading for an explanation, but I couldn't give him one. Not without risking everything.
"I'm sorry, Enzo," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "Please trust me."
With that, I turned my back on him and rushed out of the venue, Sofia in my arms. I could feel Enzo's gaze burning into my back, but I refused to look back and face the consequences of my actions.
As I made my way to the car, Sofia's sobs filled the air. She didn't understand what was happening, why her time with Enzo had been cut short. I tried my best to comfort her, assuring her that everything would be okay, even when I didn't believe it myself.
As we drove away, leaving the venue and Enzo behind, a mixture of guilt and relief washed over me. Guilt for taking Sofia away from the man she believed to be her father, and relief for protecting Aurora from the truth, at least for now.
But I knew that this was only temporary. The truth had a way of unraveling itself, and I couldn't keep it hidden forever. Sooner or later, Aurora would discover that I was in La Nostra Terra all this time and mostly close to her fiance, and I needed to be prepared for the fallout.
As the days turned into weeks, I focused on rebuilding my relationship with Sofia. We spent our time together, exploring the city, and creating new memories. I showered her with love and affection, hoping that it would be enough to shield her from the pain of discovering the truth.
We had finally decided to leave Enzo mansion and return to the hotel and working as Miguel assistant made the bills easier for me and I was happy Sofia wasn't aching and crying too much for Enzo presence as we prepared for the end of the summer holiday.
But deep down, I knew that I couldn't protect her forever. The truth would eventually come out, and I had to find a way to navigate the aftermath.
I placed all my efforts and time on the project between me and Miguel,I was prepared to Ace this project no matter what while I also trying my very best to avoid Enzo, I wouldn't want to be the center of new gossips and Aurora finding out that I am back. She can wed Enzo for all I care but Sofia happiness was what I was working hard for.
And one day, as I was tucking Sofia into bed, she looked up at me with her innocent eyes and asked, "Mommy, why did we have to leave Daddy?"
My heart constricted at her words, the pain of keeping the truth hidden becoming unbearable.
"Sofia," I said, my voice trembling. "There's something important I need to tell you."
And with those words, I took a deep breath, ready to face the consequences of my past and the uncertain future that awaited us all.
"Enzo isn't your daddy Angel." I began but to my surprise she scoffed.
"You always say so but daddy never says so." She murmured.
"Because Daddy don't want to hurt you." I said to her but she groans.
"You don't love me anymore like you always did before." She said making me feel awkward, how could she say that about me. I pulled her in for a huge as I could hear her sniffing in.
"Can't you just try to love Daddy." She said to me with a teary voice as we disengaged from the tight hug.
"That can't be possible." I said to her cleaning her cheeks as she shrugged shaking her head sideways.
"How can you not love him, but Daddy loves you." Sofia said making me shocked.
"What do you mean?" I questioned her.
"Daddy told me he loves you."
"Stop playing tricks with me." I said to her but she looked serious.
" He told me so many times and made me promise to unite you two."
