Morning sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of Cole Enterprises as employees hurried through the marble lobby, each carrying on with another busy workday.
To everyone else, it was business as usual, but to Natalie Brooks, it felt as though she'd been away for weeks instead of a single night. She adjusted the strap of her handbag as she stepped out of the elevator beside Damien. Conversations paused briefly as a few employees noticed them before quickly returning to work.
Natalie caught the curious glances, word traveled fast in corporate offices. She wondered how many people knew she'd disappeared yesterday.
