The envelope is waiting on my desk when I get to the office.
Thick. Cream-colored. Too clean. Too deliberate. I know who it’s from before I touch it.
Jake.
My jaw tightens as I close the door behind me. The glass walls of the office feel like they’re closing in, like they know something is about to die in this room.
I slide a finger under the seal and pull the papers out. Divorce documents.
Forged. Perfectly formatted. Stamped with a date that hasn’t happened yet and signatures that look real enough to fool a court at first glance.
My name is already there. So is hers.
Aurora Nightbane. My chest burns like someone poured acid into it.
