Aurora’s POV I had the gunshot tearing through the night like thunder splitting the sky. For a heartbeat, I don’t understand what was going on. There’s only sound, too loud, too close, and then fire rips through my arm. I scream loudly. The force knocks me sideways, my shoulder slamming into the wall behind me. I could hear severe pain detonate from my upper arm, sharp and blinding, as if something hot and cruel had carved into my flesh. I look down and see blood already soaking through my sleeve, dark and fast. Jake fires again. I hear the c***k, feel the air shift beside my face. The bullet misses my head by inches but grazes me again, tearing skin. The pain steals my breath. My knees buckle, and for a terrifying second, I think I’m going to fall. The smell hits next. My blood
