GOING BACK Jasmine got the offer on a Wednesday. I know it was Wednesday because Liam had his swimming lesson that morning — he had been going to lessons at the community center since he turned four, every Wednesday at nine. He took the whole enterprise very seriously. He packed his own bag the night before. He reminded me about it at 6:00 a.m. He climbed into his booster seat in Jasmine's car with the focused preparation of someone with important business to attend to.
