MORNING LIGHT
Alex's POV
The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a warm glow across my bedroom.
The storm had passed.
The rain had stopped sometime before dawn, leaving the gardens outside washed clean and glistening beneath the early morning light.
I had been awake for several minutes.
Not because of work.
Not because of the investigation waiting for me.
But because Glande was still asleep in my arms.
Sometime during the night, she'd unconsciously moved closer. Her head rested lightly against my chest while one of her hands remained curled around my shirt as though she had been afraid I'd disappear if she let go.
I looked down at her quietly.
She looked peaceful.
More peaceful than I'd ever seen her.
