CHAPTER 3 - A CHOICE OF DESTINY

1082 Words
I stood at the entrance, observing Betsy, who didn’t notice my presence. She was lost in thought, her face dim and unreadable. “Hmmm… hmmm,” I cleared my throat. She flinched in shock. “Hey, you’re back. What’s up?” she asked, quickly adjusting herself. “I’m fine. What’s wrong with you?” I asked, bending slightly and pecking her on the cheek. “Nothing. How did it go?” “I’ve been able to track them… but don’t push me off topic. What is wrong with you? You were lost in thought and didn’t even notice I had been standing here for almost two minutes.” “I’m fine. You know nothing can bother me,” she replied, forcing a smile. But I could see through it. She was clearly lying. “Hmmm…” I said quietly. “I can feel everything about you right now. Or have you forgotten our psychic connection? I’m the one person you can never lie to, so tell me—what is wrong with you?” “Okay…” she finally said. “It’s Philip and his family.” “Why are you bothered about them?” I asked, sitting beside her on the couch. “Zurich is just using us to satisfy his selfish desires. What will he do to us after we deliver them to him?” I chuckled lightly. “So that’s what’s making you lose focus?” I asked mockingly. “As far as I’m concerned, Zurich isn’t just using us—we’re fighting for a cause. You’re the one getting weak in spirit.” “Are you insulting me?” she snapped. “What stupid cause? What cause are you even talking about?” I stood up slowly, my tone sharpening. “Watch yourself, Bets. These are the same people who locked their emotions away after bringing pain, agony, and misery upon us. And now you’re feeling sorry for them?” “They are not the same people from decades ago,” she argued. “It doesn’t matter,” I replied coldly. “Blood is blood. Their blood still flows in their veins. They are replicas… so they are.” Without another word, I turned and left her sitting on the couch. ¶ ¶ ¶ “Aargh…” A sharp pain hit my head as I groaned and held it. Everything felt heavy and strange. I slowly looked around the room. It wasn’t my room. It looked ancient—like something from a movie. The atmosphere felt unreal, almost dreamlike. I forced myself upright on the bed. “Welcome back,” a calm, mature voice said from a corner of the room. “Sorry about the pain. It was a long time coming.” I turned immediately. My eyes widened. “Mum!!!” My voice cracked in disbelief. “Am I dreaming or what?” I asked, trying to rush toward her, but the pain in my head forced me back onto the bed. “Easy, dear. You’re not dreaming,” she replied softly. “But how…? Dad said you died giving birth to me,” I said, my chest tightening with sadness. “Yes,” she said gently. “That is the reality you were told. But here… I am not dead. This is not the reality you know.” “You mean this is an illusion?” I asked, confused. “It is reality revealing itself to you.” “That b***h…” I muttered under my breath. “You don’t have to hate her,” she said calmly. “Juliet did nothing wrong. She is here to help you. Now, follow me.” She stood up and walked toward the door. I hesitated, still trying to process everything, but eventually stepped down from the bed and followed her. We walked outside into a strange environment. The place looked like a broken version of a city—dark, abandoned, and lifeless. It felt like a world ruled by something inhuman. People moved around in suffering, shadows of despair everywhere. My heart tightened. My anger rose. “You don’t have to burden yourself,” she said gently, holding my hand. “Because I know you can save them.” Before I could respond, I noticed figures approaching in the distance—soldiers. I immediately became alert. “Mom, we should run,” I whispered. But she didn’t move. “Don’t be afraid,” she said calmly. “They can’t see us.” “What? Who are they?” “They are Zurich’s compelled soldiers.” She held my hand tightly and looked into my eyes. “My dear… for a long time, you and your brother have been our only hope. Our kind has been waiting for you to end this evil.” She sighed deeply. “Things are like this because you have not accepted your role. Your identity has been hidden for too long… but now it has been revealed. You must accept it and walk the path before you.” She paused. “Darkness cannot prevail against light… but it will be given a chance if you refuse to fight beside your brother. That is your destiny.” I swallowed hard. “But how, Mother? I don’t even understand what I am. How am I supposed to fight something I don’t know?” “You don’t know because you haven’t accepted what will reveal it to you,” she said softly. “Your potential is already inside you. When you are ready… you will become what you truly are.” I took a deep breath. “Okay, Mother… for Dad… for you… I will accept my fate. I won’t let you down. Philip and I will end this evil… even if it costs our lives.” A gentle smile formed on her face. “I am proud of you,” she said. “From the day you were born, I knew you would make me proud.” She reached into her clothing and pulled out a dagger. “Take this. It was once my protection… and now it will protect you.” She handed it to me. “You will find its box under your bed in your reality.” I held it tightly. “Thank you, Mother. I will not fail you.” She stepped closer. “It’s time for you to return to your brother.” “Okay… we will meet again,” I said, hugging her tightly as tears filled my eyes.
