I watched Pamela sleep peacefully. There was something innocent about her face that made everything feel normal for a moment… even though I knew nothing about our lives was normal anymore.
I sat at the edge of the bed, staring at her.
My dagger rolled slowly between my fingers.
She had been unconscious for over an hour.
The door suddenly opened.
Philip walked in.
“Hey, how is she?” he asked.
“She’s fine. She’ll wake up any moment from now,” I replied, still playing with my dagger.
“Okay… what’s all this worry about?” he asked, walking closer.
I sighed.
“Nothing.”
“You know you don’t have to lie to me, right?” he said softly, kneeling in front of me and holding my hands. “What’s wrong, sweetheart? Talk to me. Whatever it is, I can help.”
I looked into his eyes.
And for a moment, I saw something I had never noticed before.
“I… it’s the new life you guys are about to enter,” I said quietly. “The task ahead is not easy. You’re risking your lives to protect people who may never stand with you.”
“Hey, listen,” he said gently. “We are fighting for something worth it. Something that will redeem the world from evil. That is destiny. Even if we lose ourselves, it’s fine. But I know we won’t. There are others who will fight with us. Nothing is going to happen to us, darling. Don’t worry.”
My chest tightened.
God… why does he have to look at me like that?
I swallowed hard.
“Who told you it’s not a big dea—”
“Shhh,” he interrupted, placing a finger on my lips.
“To us… what must be done, must be done.”
Before I could respond, he leaned in and kissed me.
---
At that exact moment, Pamela opened her eyes.
She sat up slowly.
“I think your little play is getting too much,” she said flatly.
We immediately broke the kiss.
For a second, silence filled the room.
Then all three of us burst into laughter.
“So,” I said, turning to Pamela, “how was your moment with your mother?”
“What? You did that?” she asked in confusion.
“No,” I replied calmly. “Reality did.”
She blinked.
“…It was good,” she finally said.
Then she turned toward Philip.
Her expression changed.
“I’m ready to fight by your side.”
Philip nodded slowly.
“Good.”
“Okay,” I said, standing up. “Now that we’ve agreed, we need to prepare. First, we’re going to my place.”
“Why?” Pamela asked.
“It’s not safe here anymore,” I replied. “And there are things I need to show you both.”
---
We were on our way to Juliet’s place in my car.
Then I stopped abruptly.
Ahead of us… stood Betsy and Richard in the middle of the road.
“They’re here,” Juliet muttered.
“Who?” Pamela asked immediately.
“They’re from our realm,” Juliet said, tense. “And they’re here for you two.”
“Wait…” I said slowly. “Is that why they were whispering in class yesterday? And Tesla and Rachie too…?”
“I don’t understand,” Pamela said.
“They are new in class,” I explained, “but from day one they kept staring at me and whispering. Same thing happened with Tesla and Rachie. Something is off.”
“So they’re here for us?” Pamela asked.
“Yes,” Juliet replied. “And they’re strong. You’re not ready yet. Start the car. We’ll take another route.”
“Okay,” I said, turning the key.
Nothing.
I tried again.
Still nothing.
“Why is it not starting?” Pamela asked.
“I don’t know,” I muttered.
“Get down,” Juliet said firmly.
“What? Are you crazy? You said they’re strong!” Pamela protested.
“They’re waiting for us,” Juliet said calmly. “Trust me.”
Pamela looked at me.
I nodded slightly.
“It’s okay,” I said.
We stepped out of the car.
Betsy smirked.
“Step aside. Let us take what belongs to us,” Richard said, pointing at Juliet.
“Nothing belongs to you here,” Juliet replied firmly. “And if you want anything… you’ll have to go through me.”
Betsy laughed softly.
“Brave words… that will lead to your death.”
“Then let’s see,” Juliet said coldly.
She raised her hand.
“Efil ygrene ezerf ETH wezlerz!”
Her eyes glowed purple instantly.
A powerful purple aura exploded around Betsy and Richard.
The energy swirled violently through the air…
Then suddenly—
It disappeared.
Juliet froze.
“What the heck…? Impossible.”
Betsy smiled.
“Surprised? I guess you forgot… magic doesn’t work on Wezlerz.”
In a blur of speed, she vanished.
A second later—
She reappeared exactly where she started.
We didn’t even see what happened.
Juliet’s body suddenly weakened.
Her strength drained instantly.
She collapsed slowly to the ground.
“Noooo!!” I screamed, rushing toward her.
But before I could reach her—
Something hit Pamela and me with insane force, throwing us off balance at high speed.
Everything blurred.
And Juliet… was left behind on the ground… motionless.
