As I stepped into the classroom, Miss Beacon's sarcastic tone hit me like a slap in the face. "Have your seats, students," she sneered, her eyes scanning the room with a mixture of disdain and superiority. Her gaze landed on me, and I felt a knot form in my stomach. "And who do we have here? I can see the paupers are dreaming big. Hahaha, Miss Aurora, what do you think?" I hesitated, unsure of how to respond to her condescending tone. "Me? I don't know, Miss Beacon." My voice barely above a whisper. Miss Beacon's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with malice. "So you're now a wanna-be freak, so shameless." I tried to defend myself, but she cut me off, her words dripping with venom. "Oh wow, then I see you heed to my advice. So who are you milking all these from?" I felt a surge of frustration, but I tried to remain calm, my heart racing in my chest. "No, Miss Beacon, I don't do that." Miss Beacon's expression turned cold, her face twisting into a snarl. "Miss Aurora, you better have your seat and stop exchanging words with me. So you think you have grown wings now?" I shook my head, feeling a sense of unease wash over me. "No, ma'am." My voice barely audible.
Just as the situation was escalating, the vice chancellor walked into the classroom, her presence commanding attention. Miss Beacon's demeanor changed instantly, her expression morphing into a forced smile. The vice chancellor's eyes scanned the room, her gaze landing on me with an unnerving intensity. "How is your day, Miss Beacon?" she asked, her voice warm and friendly, but with an undercurrent of steel. Miss Beacon replied, her tone dripping with false sweetness, "It's as great as always, ma'am. Please, to what do we owe you such a surprise visit?" The vice chancellor's response caught me off guard, her words sending a shiver down my spine. "I have been informed that we have a very important student in our midst." Miss Beacon's expression turned skeptical, her eyes narrowing. "That is impossible because there is no new student amongst us. They are the same old people." The vice chancellor's eyes locked onto me, her gaze piercing. "Really? She goes by the name, Miss Aurora." Miss Beacon's tone turned dismissive, her words laced with venom. "What? Who? Miss Aurora? She is just one of the normal students we have in this university. There is nothing special to write home about when it comes to her." The vice chancellor's voice was low but audible, her words sending a chill down my spine. "Miss Aurora."
I was shocked, my heart racing in my chest. I raised my hand to signal that it was me, my palm sweating. Miss Beacon's eyes narrowed, her expression twisting into a scowl. "Stand up, Miss Aurora, show some respect." The vice chancellor intervened, her voice firm but gentle. "No, sit down, Miss. I hope you are comfortable. I came here just to check up on you." I was still trying to process what was happening, my mind reeling. "I am okay, ma'am." The vice chancellor's visit was brief, and she left as suddenly as she arrived, leaving me feeling shaken and confused.
As the class continued, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. Why had the vice chancellor visited our class, and what did she mean by "check up on you"? The questions swirled in my mind, making me feel anxious and on edge.
After the class, I searched for Tyra, my friend, to explain why I didn't return home the previous night. I found her standing by the library entrance, looking worried. I rushed to her and gave her a tight hug, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. Tyra asked, her voice laced with concern, "How are you? What happened to you? You made me worried yesterday." I took a deep breath and began to explain, my voice shaking. "It's a long story, Tyra." Tyra's expression was concerned, her eyes filled with empathy. "You know I have all day for you." As I recounted my experience, Tyra listened intently, her eyes widening in horror. "I was kidnapped," I said, trying to gauge her reaction.
Tyra's eyes locked onto mine, her expression filled with shock and fear. "What? By who? Are you okay? Did they do anything to you?" I smiled, trying to reassure her, but my heart was racing. "One question after the other, Tyra. You're confusing me
