A Terrible Meeting

Eloise’s POV “I demand an answer from you slave, speak.” He said again. Those words left his lips like a curse, nothing gentle about it. I tried to step back, but my shoulders hit the heavy wooden door. This is it. This is the end for me, I was trapped. Axel’s cold dark eyes locked onto mine as he stepped closer towards me. Sharp and piercing like a predator getting ready to catch its prey. “I’m not speaking to myself, am I ?” He shot back. “I’m…..I’m a cleaner here sir. I replied to him, placing my eyes on the floor. I dared not look at him, not that night six years ago. Not now either. “Not a single soul should ever know something happened between us”. He said, his voice low and dangerous as he took carefully measured steps towards me. I couldn’t help but feel the atmosphere getting heavier. The study room pressed against my chest, making it hard for me to breathe. He stretched out his hands, his fingers brushing against my jaw in a touch very lightly. It almost felt as if he cared. But I knew better— this was nothing other than mockery. A painful reminder of what had transpired between the both of us that night. Without warning, he immediately forced my chin up, his grip very tight as he forced me to look into his eyes. “If anyone ever comes to know of anything that happened with us.” He squeezed tightly as if he was about to force life out of me. The weight of his warning was left, hanging between us like an invisible hand around my throat. He leaned closer to face me, his raging breath warm against my cheek as he continued. His words were cold as Ice. “I’ll kill you myself.” Axel wasn’t the one to say something to scare someone. He meant every bit of those words he said. A cold wave of fear immediately crawled up my spine as I parted my lips to make sure that his message was taken seriously. Or else I would have to face the consequences. I… I could never allow him to know about Lily. I have raised her alone with my love all these years. I was at this hell hole to make sure I got the money to get her treated, and now my life was about to turn miserable as it did years ago with Axel back in my life. “I understand…si ... .Sir. I’m nothing but a slave, it should never be heard that you did something with me.” “No one will ever know about what happened, I swear on my life.” The words barely made it out of my lips. Axel stood there, looking at me closely, waiting—watching until he finally saw that which he wanted to see all along. Fear. That moment when my fear became immensely real, the moment I realized that I had to take his words seriously. He wasn’t bluffing at all. A sly knowing smirk immediately curled in his lips. Just a little—like a hunter who already knew his prey had nowhere to run to. I swallowed hard, my heart pounding against my ribs His expression immediately changed within a second, something in his eyes, but whatever it was, he buried it under the cold demeanor he was always known for. “Good, I’m glad you love your life so much to understand.” He said. Letting go of my chin as his hand suddenly dropped as if I was something that never existed. Without taking another look at me, he turned back to his desk, picking up his glass of whiskey. He looked calm, unbothered at what he had just done. Like the threats he gave to me meant nothing at all. “It’s very good that the message was clear.” He shot back. Swirling the glass of whiskey in his hands. To him, I was nothing but a mere mistake— a shadow from the past. One that didn’t take him any effort or time to erase. If I ever did try to bring up the past. He would erase me too just the same way he had erased the memories of that night years ago. Lily. My precious little world. My daughter.. our daughter. I had nowhere to keep her after taking up this job. I had to bring her here with me to keep her safe. But I have just brought her into the worst danger of her life by bringing her to this place. If Axel were to ever find out if he ever suspected…. The thought of that sent chills creeping into my spine. I pressed my nails deep into my palm, trying to hold myself from shaking. He turned away as though I no longer existed. Just like that. A dismissal and reminder that I had just returned to his world. A world where I had no place. I forced myself to move. My legs trembled as they stood stiff, numb, and unable to move. I finally tried reaching for the door, but it immediately swung open with a loud force. A woman made her way in, she was tall, and blonde, wearing a silk dress that clung to every part of her curves. She wasn’t looking like someone who belonged in this house—at least not yet though. But the way she walked in her as if she already owned the place. As if…. She already owned Axel. “Who are you and what are you doing here alone with my man?” “Her man?” It dawned on me. Axel’s new mate. “When I’m asking you a question, you answer me.” She shot back. I’m the new maid, Ma’am.” I replied to her. Forcing my eyes to the floor as I dared not look at her. She took one look at me and smiled, a sly smirk curling up her lips as she sneered. "Oh? A maid? I nearly mistook you for a beggar." "Leave," Axel’s voice immediately interrupts the moment, not even looking at me like a human being. “You’re done here, get out.” Shame immediately crept into me like deadly poison. My fingers were shaking as I gripped the door handle, but I could not let them see it. I walked away, my steps deliberate and slow, but inside of me, I was screaming. Axel had rejected me years ago as his mate, cause I was nothing more than a human slave. And now he is mated to a new one. What…what have I gotten myself into by stepping into this mansion? I walked out, my steps measured, my face blank. But inside, I was screaming.
