Scholars In The Past

463 Words
As the night wore on, Theodoros joined them by the fire, his eyes twinkling with curiosity. "Tell me, travelers, what brings you to our humble city?" The group exchanged glances, unsure how much to reveal. Julian took a deep breath and began to spin a tale, weaving a narrative that hinted at their true circumstances without revealing the truth about time travel. "We're scholars," Julian said. "We've been studying the ancient civilizations, and we wanted to see the city for ourselves. We're fascinated by the history and culture." Theodoros nodded thoughtfully. "I see. Well, you've certainly come to the right place. Our city is steeped in tradition and learning. Perhaps I can help you with your studies?" As the night wore on, Theodoros regaled them with stories of the city's history, sharing tales of myth and legend. The group listened with rapt attention, soaking up the knowledge like sponges. As they prepared for bed, Maya turned to the others with a mischievous grin. "You know, this time-traveling thing might not be so bad after all. We're learning so much, and meeting incredible people." Ethan chuckled. "And the food's not bad either." The group laughed, feeling a sense of camaraderie and adventure. As they drifted off to sleep, they knew that their journey through time would be filled with wonder, discovery, and maybe even a little bit of fun. The next morning, Theodoros approached them with a thoughtful expression. "I've been thinking, travelers. If you're scholars, I might have a way for you to contribute to our city's knowledge. Our library is in need of scribes to copy important texts. Would you be interested in helping out?" The group exchanged glances, considering the opportunity. "That sounds like a great way to learn more about the city and its culture," Sophia said. Theodoros smiled. "Excellent! I'll take you to the library. You can meet the librarian and start working on the texts." As they made their way to the library, the group couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. They were learning so much about ancient civilization, and they were contributing to its knowledge. When they arrived at the library, they were greeted by rows upon rows of scrolls and codices. The librarian, a bespectacled man named Aristides, welcomed them warmly. "Ah, new scribes! We can always use more help. Let's get you started on copying some of our most important texts." The group settled in, quills in hand, and began their work as scribes. As they worked, they discovered more about the city's history, culture, and people. But as the days passed, they couldn't shake off the feeling that they were stuck in the past, and they began to wonder when – or if – they would ever find a way back home.
