A new friend

Claire got ready for school, she wore a knee high dress with flower prints. She hated this outfit but had to wear it, it was part of the dress code. She brushed her hair and the normal routine followed with her ending up at school. She walked to her locker and watched as Micheal passed by her, the bell for first period went off and she went to class. English was the only class she had with Michael and that was after lunch. It was lunch time and she was having it alone in the schools courtyard under a tree, she wasn't hungry so she was reading a book. " Hey can I sit with you." A voice said and she looked up too see a red haired girl standing next to her. " Am not yet used to the snobby environment in there and I don't think I ever will be." The girl added and Claire smiled at her humor " I get it I feel the same way too" Claire said. " Finally someone with some sense around here. Am Sophie by the way." " Claire and I guess you're new here, right?" " Yeah, we just moved here and am beginning to regret it." " Don't. This is just school, the whole attitude gets worse at other events." Claire said. " Is that supposed to cheer me up?" Sophie asked. " No, it's a pre warning. So you would be mentally prepared." Claire said as the bell for another lesson rang. " Thanks for the warning, I'll keep it in mind." Sophie said standing up."It was nice meeting you. See you later." "Yeah, see you later." Claire said as she picked up her belongings and went to class. Claire hadn't seen Micheal since her locker. Something told her he wasn't in school but she was proved wrong when he walked into english class and took the only free seat which was next to her. " Hey." She said. She wouldn't have been surprised if he ignored her but what surprised her was that he replied not in words but he did not at her. English class progressed and at the end she went to submit her paper to the teacher but by the time she turned around he was gone. Michael was gone. He had left class early because he had a new problem to handle just as always. Michael had thought she would change once they moved here but he was wrong and rehab wasn't making it better. Always one trouble to another he only wished she wouldn't drag him in it and this time he hoped it wasn't serious since the old man had to call him. Claire and her family were standing in front of the Stephen's home. Mr and Mrs Stephen are celebrating their twenty fifth wedding anniversary so they invited the whole neighborhood for dinner and of course the head pastor's family must grace the event to the misfortune of Claire who wasn't at all willing to attend. As her family exchanged pleasantries with others, she ignored the look they gave her as the black sheep of the family, the one who lacked etiquette and manners or in Claire's eyes the one who refused to be so stuck up. Her only joy was when she saw Sophie waving at her. She excused herself from her family's conversation with another and went to meet Sophie who was standing at the other side of the room. " So how are you enjoying the party?" Claire asked. " Let's just say am grateful for the warning you gave me earlier." Sophie said and they laughed. " Never thought I'd see this much stuck up people in my life." Sophie added. " You sound like my grandma." Claire said remembering when her grandmother made the same statement when her dad was still trying to become head pastor and invited other pastors to discuss about building Holy land. " I never thought of myself as old"- " Oh I didn't mean it like that I meant my grandma used to say that. She's the reason am not like them." Claire concluded pointing to her sisters. " Oh, what happened to her? " Sophie asked. " She moved away, couldn't live in stuckup ville as she called here." Claire answered evidently missing her grandma . " Can't say she's wrong though, looking around." " Yeah." Claire said and the conversation continued. Some how even though she didn't really know Sophie that well, she was easy to talk to and the conversation went on and on, she even met Sophie's parents who were really nice and friendly, speaking to her like they knew her already explaining the source of Sophie's easy go attitude. Claire said her good-byes to Sophie and for the first time she had fun at one of these parties.
