I left the office right behind Alexandra. I couldn't catch the elevator with her, so I waited for it to come back up and got in.
The lights inside started to flicker, and I frowned. The electricity shouldn't be failing; it was supposed to have been fixed last month. Suddenly, the elevator stopped for a few seconds, then the generator kicked in, and the elevator continued on its way.
I stepped off the elevator and looked around; it was dark, the lights here weren’t working. I felt a surge of alarm at a loud noise beside me, but no matter how hard I strained to see, the darkness was too thick.
I reached for my phone, only to remember it was still on my desk. I’d have to go back for it. Just as I turned around, a groan of pain made me whip around sharply.
