I stepped back quickly, confusion flickering across my face. Aiden stared at me, disappointment flickering in his eyes, mixed with something close to the pain of rejection.
His lips parted slightly, as if he wanted to say something, but then he pressed them shut as I took another step back.
He was always hard to read, but this time, I knew exactly what I saw or was I imagining things?
