Chapter 1: June“Hey, gorgeous.” Alyssa’s beaming smile lit up the screen and her dark eyes glinted as they caught the light from her bedside lamp. “You good?”
“Sleepy.” Jen yawned and stretched before tucking her unruly hair behind her ears. “I must look a state,” she said, finger-combing a lock of long brown hair.
“You look adorable.”
“Adorable?”
“Yeah. Cute and cuddly. You rock the bedhead look.”
“Liar.” Grinning, Jen pulled her nightshirt over her knees. “Thanks for this.”
“Oh, hey, I had to talk to you before you go today. I needed to check you’re okay, you know?”
“I’m fine.”
“Hmm…” Alyssa narrowed her eyes. “Didn’t wake you, did I?”
“No, I’ve been awake for ages.”
“Couldn’t sleep?”
Jen shook her head.
“Not surprising. Poor you. Wish I could be there to help.”
