OLIVIA'S POV
I had to get used to my new lifestyle. Fast.
It felt like being thrown in the middle of a bustling, chaotic roller coaster. It was practically one thing after another, back-to-back to the point where I felt like I could hardly breathe.
Mr Dennison dropped me at Blackwood Hotel after the longest hours of shopping I'd ever experienced in my life. You would think shopping was invigorating and fun, but I had never been more wrong about anything in my life.
After trying over a hundred different outfits, I was exhausted to the bone. It might have been shorter if my PA, Grace, hadn't kept discarding and disapproving of every outfit I actually liked.
"Wasn't fashionable enough," She had said. Wasn't Christian's taste...blah blah.
Excuse me? Wasn't I the one to wear these dresses?
We'd had to scour the entire store to pick out outfits, shoes, and accessories. I was too terrified to even look at the receipt because the price tags were enough to show me that we had splurged thousands of dollars. All on Christian's orders, of course.
The more my eyes were opened to the realities of being an elite, the more I disliked it. Not only did I strongly feel like we were wasting money on unimportant things, but my legs were also aching terribly from all the walking. Now, I could barely feel my legs as I slowly made my way inside the hotel.
I was walking toward the elevator when my phone pinged with a notification. I was so engrossed in checking it that I didn't realize when I bumped into someone.
My phone clattered to the ground with a horrifying crack.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there," I apologized as I bent to pick up my phone, and when I lifted my gaze to apologize properly to whoever I had bumped into, I was a bit starstruck by the striking eyes.
Christian?
"Are you stupid?!" The man thundered. "Are you so damn blind that you didn't see me walking in this direction?"
I was taken aback by his tone, but also briefly distracted by his slight resemblance to Christian—like a knocked-down version of Christian, actually. I could recall seeing his face a few times on the news too.
Suddenly, it hit me. This was Christian's stepbrother.
His name was at the tip of my tongue, but I couldn't remember it. Looking up to face him once more, I took a step back.
"Sir, I know I was wrong to be on my phone while walking through the lobby, and that is why I apologized. But right now, this attitude of yours is uncalled for. I don't appreciate you yelling and calling me names." I told him. "Besides, if you weren't distracted yourself, you would have seen me coming and avoided bumping into me. But that didn't happen. We were both distracted, which is why I think we should apologize to each other and move on."
For a few moments, he stared at me with narrowed eyes, as though trying to ascertain if I was being serious. And then he scoffed and walked closer to me.
"Do you have any idea who you're talking to?" he hissed.
I had barely given a response when he turned away and motioned to some security personnel behind us. When they approached, he gestured to me. "Run a check through the system to see if this woman has a room booked here. If she does, cancel the reservation, refund her, and kick her out. Now."
The security guards started to advance toward me when a deep voice boomed across the lobby. "She's with me."
I followed the voice to find Christian standing behind us with a frown on his face. Instantly, the security guards bowed to him and dispersed without another word.
"Olivia," he called out to me. I instantly gravitated towards him, glancing behind to see Michael purple with rage.
But he did not interfere although he did look pissed to have his authority questioned.
Without as much as a glance at his brother, Christian led me to his office. Once the door was shut behind us, he faced me.
"I see you've met my stepbrother, Michael."
I nodded, unable to form a coherent sentence. This was the first time we were meeting since...the other night. My face was heating up intensely and it was a struggle to hold eye contact.
Christian looked unperturbed and nonchalant as usual. It was like nothing ever happened between us.
I tried to shake off the disappointment I was feeling, reminding myself that he had slept with several women before me and that it was just another night for him.
He obviously wouldn't consider it as special.
"Michael seems quite...scary," I changed the subject.
Christian scoffed. "Well, he likes to make himself that way so people can fear him. But respect does not come from fear. Anyway, let's not discuss that. I was about to have lunch. You'll be coming with me."
"Yes, please. I'm starving, actually."
He led me to the Executive Lounge where a table had already been reserved. The servers came forth and Christian asked them to bring me the special. I didn't know what that was, so I was excited. In a few minutes, we were served.
"For lunch, you will be having Tuna Tartare as starters, Wagyu Beef Steak as the main course, Truffle-infused mashed potatoes as side options, and Gold-Leaf Tiramisu as dessert," Our server announced.
My mouth began to water as I took in the sight of the food. I immediately took a bite of the Tuna Tartare and my eyes widened as the burst of flavours filled my mouth. "Mmm, it tastes so good!"
I looked up to see Christian leaned back into his chair, watching me intently, zero meals in front of him.
"Aren't you eating? I asked in surprise.
"I'll have coffee," he said, and I shrugged, digging back into the delicacies in front of me.
"You should—" he started to say, and suddenly, I leaned across the table and stuffed a piece of steak in his mouth.
For a split second, we both froze, staring at each other in close proximity. I had done that impulsively, without stopping to think about the aftermath.
I usually fed my brother that way whenever he didn't want to eat anything so it just happened.
I watched anxiously as Christian loosened his tie and chewed slowly on the steak.
"I'm sorry..." I whispered, feeling awkward.
"Don't ever try that again," he said in a calmer tone than I expected. I quickly apologized again before digging back into my food.
Christian cleared his throat after some minutes. "I called you here because we need to discuss and work on our plans."
"What plans?" I choked out, taking a gulp of the orange juice next to me.
"In order to ensure you really get pregnant, there has to be a repeat," he cleared his throat again, seeming a bit uncomfortable, "of what happened last night."
The food I tried to swallow suddenly got stuck in my throat.
Coughing, I grabbed a glass of water and downed it in one gulp before facing Christian again. "What?'"
"I would not like to repeat myself, Olivia. I'm certain you heard me."
I sighed, wiping my mouth with a napkin. "B-But is that necessary?"
"My grandfather has called for a family meeting this weekend, and I plan to announce that you are pregnant with my child at this meeting. I cannot afford to be in an awkward position where I lose face after some weeks, so you need to actually get pregnant soon."
I nodded, knowing that I couldn't even object.
"We will meet tonight," he said, rising to his feet. "Be punctual." Then he turned to leave.
"Wait!" I called out.
He turned back to face me.
"Tonight can't work," I said, fidgeting. "I promised my mom I would visit my brother at the hospital tonight."
"You can reschedule your arrangement with your mother." He replied.
"No, no, please. It's very important." I said, squeezing my fingers. I looked up at him, wondering if I could actually tell him what was in my mind. "If—if you're not too busy now, we can..."
His eyes narrowed, then widened when he realized what I was getting at.
"Are you suggesting I f**k you in my office?"
I laughed nervously, feeling the heat flooding my cheeks. "No, no, no...how could I ever suggest such a thing?"
