PROLOGUE
"Hey, are you okay?" A young girl asked, nearing the young boy who just sat there looking defeated.
"Just leave already." The young boy gritted out, but still not giving her a mere glance.
Hazel only ignored him, realising he must be upset. So, instead she sat down next to him, as they both leaned against the school fence.
The young boy looked up, sneaking a glance at the little girl. 'What the hell does she want?' He thought to himself.
"It's my first year in high school. And it doesn't make it easier that I don't know anyone. It feels so strange." The girl spoke up. Instead looking a head of her, not
at the young boy beside her.
The boy raised his head and gave her his full attention.
"Why the hell should I care?" He snapped at her, but the girl ignored his grouchy attitude. Instead she gave him a warm smile.
"I thought if I shared what scared me, you could share what upsets you." She replied, causing the young boy to look surprised.
"And why would I do that?" He asked in a harsh tone, knitting his brows together in irritation.
"Because it'll make you feel better. Trust me, I know."
The boy looked taken back, falling silent on her words. But what seemed like hours, he finally spoke.
"My parents are dead." He whispered faintly. Looking directly down at his shoes as if they were the most interesting things in the world.
But what he didn't expect was the girl's reply.
"Same." She whispered.
They boy snapped his head to her, once again taken back by her response.
"It happened a few months before starting my first day here." The young girl spoke up. "My mother was going to take me here on my first day, we even planned
a celebrational dinner for when I finished my first day." Her once wide smile started to fall, as she recalled the memories.
"I.." The boy started, but the young girl only replaced her frown with a wide smile as she looked at him.
"It's not so bad, really. So don't worry, I have my grandmother now. It's only me and her, and even though I wished my parents were here. Well she's been the best thing
I've had in along time." The boy only looked shocked by her perspective through all of this.
It was, different.
The boy looked away, facing forward as he watched the wind push the tree branches.
"I'm moving in with my Aunt and Uncle. Until I'm legal enough to leave on my own."
The girl looked at him, but that's not what got his attention. It was the fact he could feel her warm small hand on top of his.
"But is that what you really want? To be alone?" She asked, and it almost sounded like she was concerned. Which twisted something inside of the boy.
For no ones really showed him any concern after his parents death. Instead they only worried over who'd take him, but not because it was him. But because he was
entitled to his parents wealth.
"For someone so young you sound quiet knowledgeable." The boy finally showed her a smile. Even if it was small and didn't reach his eyes fully.
But it was enough, for her anyways.
"Hey, you're not that much older then me anyway. What are you..-" But just before she could finish, she was cut off by the bell.
The girl jumped to her feet, anxiety poured all over her features.
The boy only looked amused. 'I guess she wasn't lying about being scared of school.' He thought.
But before she could run off, the boy pulled her wrist back. Making her face him.
"At least tell me your name before you run off." He smirked at her, which caused the girl to look surprise.
Since this whole time his only showed one emotion. Sadness.
The young girl smiled widely, showing her perfect smile. Well it was perfect to him, which shocked the boy a little.
"My name's Hazel."
"I guess I should share my name too, huh?" He replied, which caused Hazel to nod her head.
"Well, it would make it easier for me to find you." She smiled at him.
The boy looked shocked. 'Should would look for me?' He thought feeling a tinge of redness creeping onto his cheeks.
"Nicolas." He replied awkwardly.
"Nicolas." Hazel repeated, testing his name on her tongue. "I like it." She replied.
"Well, I better go. See you later, Nicolas." She yelled from afar, waving as she was running in the direction to her class.
However, Hazel never got to see Nicolas again. Nor did he ever get the chance to see that young girl that cheered him up that day. She was the first one to show
him any sort of kindness after his parents death. And he will never forget the memory of her, nor will he try to.
After Hazel left to her class that day, Nicolas was pulled away from school by his Aunt and Uncle. They were taking him away to their home, which sadly resided
in another city, hours away from his original home. But as much as he didn't want to go, he was only 15. He had a few more years before he was able to leave and inherit
his parents generous fortune.
Hazel however, looked everywhere for him. There would be days where she would sit at the spot she first met Nicolas, but he never showed. She then went searching for
him around school. Ignoring the anxiety that bubbled up inside her being around so many people. But she pushed those feelings aside, in search of finding the boy.
After 2 weeks of no luck, she made a friend and slowly started to forget her search of looking for the boy. Instead she put her attention into Damien.
For he was now the only one beside her grandmother, who helped her with her anxiety and timid trait.
But some nights she would wonder how Nicolas was doing. Where ever he was.
