Patient for Revenge

I watched from my perch in the trees surrounding the small pack house as my enemy walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, the other two people in the room were sitting and facing each other on the small couch in the bedroom, where they had been since Orion had disappeared into the bathroom. A woman with long red hair and a dark-skinned man with white hair and eyes. The woman had to be the mate I had heard Orion discussing with the wolf officer at the Goodwill. Thank the goddess for police scanners, I had managed to steal one when I had decided to wait in town for a sign of my target, it was like looking for a particular needle in a stack of needles, but that needle had fallen into my lap. I had heard the call over the scanner, a suspicious white male with long blonde hair running through the streets at four in the morning.   I had been staying only a couple blocks away in a hotel along the coast, and after throwing the few items I owned into my backpack and hauling ass, I managed to make it to Goodwill just as he was climbing from the donation bins, and the police officers showed up. If I had managed to get there just a moment earlier, I could have taken him out before they had come on scene, but I couldn’t risk drawing humans into my personal vendetta, as little care as I had for their regard, a few police officers going missing on a call would raise suspicions and I did not feel like dealing with a man hunt.    The conversation had been enlightening though, with Orion unwittingly disclosing to his unknow enemy that he had a weakness… he had a mate. Though how that was the case I was not sure. My father had killed his mate seven years ago, and since Lycan’s reincarnated to return to their mate they never received a second chance mate. If his mate had reincarnated immediately, she would still be a child. Unless she had been born as another supernatural? Vampires aged quickly the first three years of their life, reaching full adult maturity by age five. But werewolves and vampires were rarely fated mates, and there had never been a documented case of a Lycan reincarnating as a vampire, because their creators, or ‘Goddesses’ hated each other with a passion. Seemed highly unlikely that his mate was a vampire in this life.   I had followed the police cruiser back to the beach, staying out of sight, sneaking up on the clearing using my cloaking abilities, and sat back, listening and learning. Hearing that the woman, Roisin was not only Orion’s mate, but the male Siren’s fiancée had been an interesting tidbit that I locked away.   Sneaking into this pack’s territory had been incredibly easy, embarrassingly so actually, it helped that I did not have a scent like most wolves. That mixed with my ability of being able to cloak myself from anyone and everything meant that there were very few places on this planet I could not get into undetected. It was one of the reasons I was such a great assassin and asset to the House of Knight.   Getting comfortable on the branch, I settled in to sit back and observe, ready to strike if and when the moment was right.
