Love Letters

Chapter 2

I was walking in the Riverside Garden to refresh my mind from all the stuff that's been on my mind these past few days. Exams and some pending papers that I still have to finish and it's already due next week and I still haven't finished it yet. The High School Night that everyone talks about was already 2 weeks away. I sat at the near bench and closed my eyes for a bit to inhale the fresh air and listen to the sound of the river. I opened my eyes and looked up to the moon.

The moon is beautiful tonight. It's been a while since I sat here and admired it.

I just sat there for a while and admired it.

Hours later I didn't realize that it was so late and when I checked my phone, my Mother was calling me for the 10th time now. I hurriedly picked up the phone and sat up.

“Roseita Williams, where are you?” my Mother furiously said through the phone.

Okay now I'm doomed

“I'm walking by the Riverside Garden now, Mom”

“Hurry up, it's already 10 PM and you're still not home.”

“Okay mom”, I hung up and hurriedly ran home.

I arrived at the main street and suddenly it rained, I quickly found some shelter and waited for the rain to stop.

“How can I go home now?”, I said while trying to dry myself. I looked at my watch and saw that it was already 10:30 PM and so I decided to just run home as Sitaly Village was not that far.

I was about to run when suddenly someone held an umbrella. I looked and saw Jacob holding an umbrella behind me.

“Rose, why are you here this late?”, he asked.

“I didn't realize the time and stayed for hours in the Riverside Garden.” I replied.

He looked at me and he realized that I was really soaking wet.

“Take this”, he said while handing me the umbrella.

“Thank you, but I'm okay”, I replied while shivering.

“I should've not stayed in there for hours,” I said in my head, regretting my actions.

“Just take it, you look like an abandoned puppy in that situation.” he said, holding his laugh.

I look at him angrily and said,

“It's not funny Jacky”, I teased him with his old nickname in elementary.

He laughs and I grab the umbrella he was holding.

“Hey let me take you home” he said before I could say something.

“No, I can go home on my own and my Mom wouldn't let you get home anyway if you come. Remember?”, I reply while opening the umbrella.

“Yeah, I forgot about that.”

“I better go now or else my Mom would really freak out if I don't come home now.”

“Goodnight Rose” he said before walking towards the building.

I looked at his figure walking away and opened my umbrella and walked home.

I arrived at my house after a minute of walking and as I went inside my Mother was waiting for me on the couch.

“Why are you drenching in the rain?” She stood up and checked on me from front to back.

“I forgot to bring an umbrella”, I replied quietly.

“Go upstairs and shower, I will heat up the dinner for you to eat.”

“Okay Mom, thank you.”

I went upstairs and quickly took a shower. After I did, I went downstairs and found my mom watching “The Notebook” for the hundred times now.

I quickly get my food from the oven and sit beside her to watch it together.

“You know Rose, it's been months since we watched this movie together.” she said while still looking at the TV.

I looked at her and realized that for the past few days I only focused on my studies and didn't even get to spend time with her. I always arrived home late and sometimes she would be asleep on the couch waiting for me. I would always feel guilty for making her wait for me every night, but when she said those words it sunk me knowing that for months she was waiting for me to be free with schools to hang out with her again.

“I'm sorry Mom”, I said looking down.

She looked at me and smiled her brightest smile and said,

“It's okay my baby, by the way, how's school?”

I glance at her and I'm hesitating to tell her how school is stressing me out these past few days. So I just said;

“We still have incoming exams and pending papers to finished but so far it's great, Mom”

“Don't pressure yourself too much, okay?”

“I'm not Mom”, I lied and smiled at her.

While eating my Mom sat up and said,

“Finish your dinner, okay. I'm heading upstairs because I still have work tomorrow. Goodnight my baby.” she said while touching my cheeks.

“Goodnight Mom”

After I finished my dinner, I went upstairs and opened my laptop to finish studying for my exams.
