That hit Jimmy almost as fast as the bullet which had grazed his arm. How the hell did Freddy know about what happened? The Conklins were no fans of the NYPD, more specifically this particular precinct. Yet, he had voluntarily called them to rat out Jimmy for running away from the scene of the crime.
“What did Freddy have to say for himself?”
“Said you were harassing his family. First his wife…”
“Vera spoke to me voluntarily.”
“And that you roughed up Lenny and Bruce at their business. That true?”
“I went there to talk to them. I’d had a run in with them, I stopped them from beating up a guy on the sidewalk outside the Filthy Pig a couple of nights ago. I thought they might have been seeking retaliation for my getting involved in their business.”
