Releasing the stalk, Byron followed Bassan to the next marvel of the plant kingdom. He hadn’t anticipated a biology lesson, but his son asked endless questions. To his relief, they moved at a casual pace through the gardens. Twice they passed others enjoying the scenery, but for the most part, it was just the two of them. Byron couldn’t recall the last time he’d shared an afternoon with his son. His duties kept him occupied and away from his family more than he cared to admit.
