Jabbir could not believe his ears, what had he just heard?
He looked at the president face for a glint of humor, devoid of a smile. This is more than a joke, Asum rock harboring the deadliest of all weapons; a chemical bomb.
"The good news is that we can trace the origin of the chemical and have an ideal image of the terrorist involved," Tafa said as he brought out his handkerchief in a ceremonial way, the act more of drama than a mere whipping of his big nose.
"I believed it was stolen from the University of Awol in Osun state."
" May I no the nature of what we have here?" Jonny asked
"They claimed it's a combustive chemical that can destroy the whole of Asum rock if exploded," Tafa replied.
This image is from a camera hidden. somewhere inside here. A huge proportion of cameras had gone stolen before, usually stolen by visitors in search of souvenirs, but as soon as the camera left these premises the signal will be lost and the screen will be blank.
But a clear image was coming from camera #52, of course, there is only one explanation, the camera is still inside here, someone had just simply moved it and connected it to this chemical.
"Are there any stairway, any cupboard, or dark alcove that look familiar?." Jabbir asked.
The voice replying sounded scared and confused. "No considering the small size of the camera and the fact that it's wireless, camera #52 could just be transmitted from anywhere within this heavily guarded compound- a densely packed collection of thirty-two separate buildings covering more than half radius, the only clues was that the camera seemed to have been placed somewhere dark. Just about anywhere within the heavily guarded compound. Of course, that wasn't much help, this place contained endless dark locations- maintenance closet, heating duct, gardening sheds, bedrooms, wardrobes, even some labyrinth of underground tunnels.
Camera#52 could take some time to locate.
Tafa gazed up at the image the camera was transmitting, it was a stationary object, a modern-looking device like nothing he had ever seen before.
He studied the blinking electronic display at its base, his walkie-talkie chose the unfortunate time to break the silence.
Tafa picked his call, listened for a few seconds, nodded his head.
"Please let her enter." He said.
"The university representative is here," Tafa announced.
President Jonny shrugged, his face registering no emotion as the door opened and a young, beautiful lady gracefully walked in.
Fatima stood in the doorway surveying the exceptional big room before her, approaching the room the three men seemed to grow with each step.
Fatima wasn't tall herself, five-point three feet, she is accustomed to looking up at many people, but these three men demanded it.
She sensed that these men had weathered tempests, their face has hale and steeled.
Her eyes fell on the president; His dark hair cropping in a military buzz cut, and his eyes burning with the kind of hardened determination only attainable through years of intense training.
She saw him moving with Ramrod's exactness, looking more like the American secret service than the president.
The middle man addressed her in accented English, his voice was startling quite for such a large man, barely a whisper. It bit with a tight military efficiency.
"Good afternoon," he said. "I'm the one who called your University."
Fatima gazed upward. "Thank you for seeing me."
The CSO did not respond, he motioned for her to come closer to one of the screens and pointed at it, then he turned towards the guest.
"This image is from a remote camera hidden somewhere inside Asum rock. We will like an explanation."
Fatima looked at the screen and inhaled, the image was absolute, no doubt.
It was a canister, her canister, hunged ominously in the air, light by the rhythmic blinking of the led digital clock.
00:04:07
00:04:06
00:04:05
Eerily, the area around the canister was entirely dark, as if the chemical was in a closet or darkened room.
At the top of the monitor flashed superimposed text. live feed -camera #52.
Fatima looked at the time remaining on the flashing indicator on the canister, under four minutes.
Tafa's whisper now sounded more like a hiss, "does this object belong to your facility?."
Fatima nodded, "it was stolen from us, it contains an extremely combustive substance. We need to locate it before the next four minutes."
Fatima closed her eyes and reopened them, "It's too late already." she concluded.
The president choked. "You mean we only have four minutes to find the canister?"
Fatima's pupils seemed to recede into her head.
"Mr. President please let me explain: In the next five minutes, finding the canister will be more dangerous and deadly, when this countdown reaches its final zero, the chemical will produce a deadly energy flux, which will destroy any living things within twenty Miles."
Jabbir framed her with a fervent stare, nature has many mysteries yet to unveil.
President Jonny leaned closer. "May I ask exactly who you are and what is your position in the university?"
"Am a senior member of the research staff and appointed liaison to the president for this crisis."
"Excuse me for being rude, but why am I dealing with you and not your vice Chancellor?" President Jonny asked.
"The vice Chancellor was my grandfather, he was murdered along with another professor some hours ago.
I'm sure we all remember the story of creation." Fatima continued, looking around at the waiting men, seeing the expected confusion. Well, in Obawol University we indeed prove Genesis to be true.
Our DNA was poisoned from the effect of the apple eaten by the first human on Earth.
This apple, a blessing in disguise, evolved human IQ, enabling him to possess the power of creation. These are seen from humans' inventions: Electricity, flying objects, and moving objects.
Men indeed create wonders, but due to the dual nature of the fruit, it creates in man a destructive enzyme.
Man is like a god but must die like a dog, just like a blade of grass.
Alive in the morning, dead in the night.
In Ile Ife, we create a chemical, an adverse effect on the deadly enzyme.
This godly chemical had been tested on animals, they live three times longer than their untreated mates.
The fact was; we could have a triple humans lifespan.
Not even God will stop us from living longer."
The three men groaned with mouth agape, this strange little creature seemed to derive great relish from blasphemy.
"Except we see the stolen code, going near the chemical in the next few minutes is suicidal." Fatima continued.
"The stolen code?" The three men asked surprisingly.
"Yes," Fatima replied. "The missing code, we believe it was stolen along with the chemical. With this code, we can stop the bomb and save the world."
"How many hours do we have after the first countdown?" CSO Tafa asked.
Despite the blast of icy air hissing in the hall, his sweat seemed to have soaked his underwear.
"Six hours," Fatima replied.
Jabir's face instantly went rigid. Who in his right sense would want to destroy Asum rock?
"Unless we find the code in the next 6 hours, am afraid Asum rock will have nothing to show for the next generation but a big hole in the ground," Fatima concluded.
"And what is the code?" Tafa asked, feeling left aside from the whole scene.
"That's a mystery nobody knows." Of course except for these two murdered men.
Perhaps this picture will give you a clue.
Fatima dipped her hand in her trouser and produced an envelope filled with pictures.
When the men saw the picture, they all felt the power of evil in full force.
The pictures the men behold are pictures of the two grown men, both in their early sixties.
All there muscular was in plain view.
Stripped off every shred of clothing, their skin glittering even in death.
Yet the most significant thing shared by these two men is; both men have one of their arms amputated.
"We believed engraved on their two arms is a code, diagram or symbol to stop this bomb, without their two arms, am afraid we have no choice but to evacuate all important documents and stand to watch the final fall of Asum rock." Fatima smiled devilishly.
Jabbir groans louder, what a lady!
"One more question," Tafa said.
"If this is all about human longevity, how comes it produced such a destructive chemical?"
"I think the chemical is not yet In its final stage, am not sure, the murdered men should have provided a more reliable answer," Fatima replied.
