My phone’s scream woke me up, and I leaned over to stop its ceaseless noise as I groaned. I opened my eyes to a still dim room, not yet filled with the sun’s morning light. “Kisten?” I called out to him as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, but only silence answered me as I slowly sat up. I looked over my shoulder and saw that the bed beside me was empty, my heart pounding as I noticed. I quickly grabbed my phone and double-checked the time: I hadn’t overslept, so Kisten should have still been there. I wasn’t much of a morning person, usually sleeping until late in the afternoon, but he had promised to wait for me so we could leave the hotel together.
