Brokenhearted

1222 Words
My dad… Hilda… they both were dead. They were laying next to each other, in a large puddle of blood. Their necks were ripped. I let a shaky breath out, tears swell up in my eyes. ‘Meghan! Let me shift! Please!’ Ellie begged me to let her shift. Too many things happened overwhelmed me, I continued to stare at my dead parents on the ground, tears threatened to spill. I collapsed to my knees, tears streaming uncontrollably, as I cradled my dad in my arms, clutching Hilda's hand tightly, my heart shattering with every sob that tore through me. “Daddy… Hilda…” I sobbed loudly. I forgot about the rogue, my birthday, and everything happened. My wolf cried out, sharing her pain through the bond. Ellie didn’t get to meet her dad or Hilda yet.. Nor their wolves. Then something hits me. Hilda has recently told me that she was pregnant. Now I just lost three precious people in my life. I won’t ever get to meet my baby sibling.. I continued to cradle my dead dad in my arms, crying my heart out. I intertwined my hand with Hilda’s, I felt the cold, hard, and smooth surface in her hand. I pulled out to see the locket she always wore. It was shaped as an oval locket with pictures of me and my dad inside. I remembered she told me it was very special to her. I put the locket around my neck then stood up. I stared at them, my heart breaking to watch my once loving family laying on the ground with their neck ripped. I lifted my head to take in the ruins of what was once my peaceful home, but my gaze quickly locked onto the rogue from earlier—his eyes blazing with fury. But I didn’t have time to react when the four rogues approached, they were baring their teeth, clearly snarling at me. A sharp gasp escaped me, followed by a whimper, as I stumbled backward. Panic surged through me, and I spun around, bolting into the field with every ounce of strength my legs could muster. The ground was shaking from the footsteps, I knew they were chasing me. My dad always told me I was a fast runner, my heart clenched painfully as my dad’s words appeared in my mind. I ran into the forest where dad has f*******n me from going in. But for the first time, I stepped into the forest. After a long time of running, I felt like I’ve been running for days but it was just an hour. ‘Meghan! Right now is good timing to let me shift! It will be painful, but don’t try to fight it.’ Ellie whimpered sadly, but I knew she was trying to protect me even though she was suffering like I am. I stopped, looking around to make sure I was alone. I didn’t feel any vibrations or scents nearby. Good. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath. Hilda and dad told me it would be painful on your first shift, but it will get better over time. Without warning, I felt my bones breaking everywhere, I screamed out in pain for a moment before falling onto my knees. Goddess! It felt like I’m dying. ‘Shh.. Just don’t fight it, let me in.’ Ellie guided me through the pain as I groaned in pain. My clothes were getting ripped apart. I quickly took my pants off to make the shift a little bit easier. After a few moments, I opened my eyes, it looked different, then I realized I wasn’t in my body. I was seeing through Ellie’s eyes. Ellie stood up, quickly giving herself time to adjust as she started to run again. At least she was a much quicker runner. It felt like hours after running, we found a small creek and approached the gushing water. • • • Ellie looked around and sniffed before she dropped to drink the water. I was sobbing, letting my tears fall. I lost Hilda, Dad and my unborn sibling.. Where am I supposed to go? Daddy.. Hilda.. I still can’t believe what happened. Why? What did I do to deserve this? Did I upset Goddess? ‘No, Meghan, you didn’t upset her. We need to move on until we find a safe place.’ Ellie whimpered loudly, sharing her sadness through the link. ‘Let me shift back, Ellie.’ I begged, ‘No, your clothes were ripped, and you don’t have anything to keep yourself warm. Just let me take care of you, okay?’ Ellie cooed me softly, I sighed then quieted down. ‘Right, okay..’ I murmured softly, but then I couldn’t hold my tears back anymore. The sun was setting down, the air became colder. Waking up to wonderful morning with people I loved to the night of heartbreaking of losing my family all in one day.. Ellie whimpered sadly after listening to my thoughts. ‘I’m so sorry. I’m the worst human ever.’ I sobbed, feeling my heart ripping in half. ‘No Meghan, you’re not the worst human ever.’ Ellie continued to whimpered, she looked around and found a small dry spot under a rotting tree branching over the ground giving a shelter. Curling up in a small ball, she buried her face into her tail as she closed her eyes. I felt so exhausted and the darkness slowly creeped into my eyes, luring me to fall asleep. The sun hits my eyes— through my wolf’s eyes, and we tried to hunt for food, only barely managed to catch a fish. I shifted and took a small piece of the fish, devoured it before shifting back. As soon as Ellie finished devouring the fish, Ellie raised her head in the air sniffing. ‘Rogues! It’s the same group of rogues!’ Ellie said sharply, jumping over the creek. Her paws hit the ground repeatedly, and continued to run down in the woods. I could feel the vibrations through Ellie’s paws, and Ellie used all of her strength and energy to get away from the scary rogues. But then, I sniffed out new scents. Ellie tried to change her direction but the rogues were closer and trapped Ellie in a corner of the cliff. I was running out of space, the rogues snarled and tried to nip my paws. But suddenly, a flash of black form attacked two of the rogues out of nowhere. Then more wolves attacked other remaining rogues, but then I felt the ground under me rumble. I tried to get away from the edge but it was too late. Ellie let out a loud yelp as she desperately clung to the thick, unyielding root jutting from the ground, her mouth slipping against its rough surface. But as soon as it slipped out of Ellie’s mouth, the rocks rolled down to the gushing river below. But I never made it to the ground. I looked up and saw the same black wolf gripping me firmly in its jaws, pulling me back from the brink of death. Once we reached solid ground, far from the edge of the cliff, exhaustion overwhelmed me, and darkness began to cloud my vision. Just before everything went black, I caught a glimpse of two black wolves approaching me.
