Chapter Six She flinched hard, closing her eyes tightly as if waiting for some sort of punishment for her insolence. She was met with silence as she opened her eyes to see her husband staring at her blankly, expressionless as he touched his lips which has a speck of blood on it. “Did you think I was going to hit you??” He finally asked. She didn’t respond, his demeanor suddenly changed as he grabbed her by the arm pulling her to a corner of the building, she winced and tried yelling when his grasp tightened around her but only a soft squeal left her lips. Alex shoved her against the wall and she almost cried out in pain, regretting his actions immediately he took a deep breath, “I told you to not do that?” “Do what??” Ignoring her question, he took her hands in his, brushing her palm slightly with his thumb and looked up at her. Olivia was confused and terrified at the same time, moments ago he looked like he was about to fold her in half and now his touch was as genteel as a dove. “I would never hurt you Olivia.” “I don’t know that.” He chuckled softly, “There’s a lot of things you don’t know about me. I don’t hurt people Liv— “It’s Olivia.” She corrected. He hated when she did that, interrupting him with such sass—but she was his wife and he was prone to having a soft spot for her , as beautiful as she was. “I don’t hurt people Liv,” ignoring her correction, “I especially don’t hurt women.” He was lying. She saw the darkness in his eyes when he pulled her away, when he caught her trying to escape and when he came out of that suspicious room. He was dangerous, she would be a fool to believe the lies coming out of his mouth. “If you’re as kind as you say you are,” She sniffled lightly, “please let me— “No” “No??” He laughed again, more manically than the last, “I said I don’t hurt people Olivia. I never said I was a kind man.” “You’re a monster.” She said with her teeth gnashed as she spat on his shoe. Alex showed pure restraint, looking down at the slime on his sheeny red bottoms and then he took another deep breath before smiling again, “Well you’re married to one…now about that kiss?” She was prepared to bite him again, damn the consequences as she would rather die than let this man touch her. He saw the terror in her eyes and smirked, “Relax Olivia.” “Please take me home.” She pleaded one more time, “I’ll be your wife only on— “No.” He said out flatly. Right then, Olivia father’s words crossed her mind. This was no longer some random dream, neither a figment of her poor imagination—she was now the wife of a mafia boss, and her father’s plan whatever it was needed to come into action. “Come on,” Alex muttered with his tone carrying a sense of command as he linked his arms over hers, “We have guests waiting.” ********* It was a sham of a wedding. Olivia was surrounded by probably dangerous hoodlums, criminals, possible murderers for all she knew including her dear husband who wasn’t as far off from the rest of them. He occasionally sent glares from the other side of the room which made her insides squirm with fright, as terrifying as it was..Alex Maldov had the most mesmerizing eyes. She watched intently one of his henchmen whispered something into his ear, he looked at her again and their eyes met—his blazing with a fire she’d never seen before. He excused himself with the man and she was left alone again, with a bunch of criminals she barely knew. “You’re in good hands Madam Maldov.” One of them announced as he sat next to her, she shifted as the stench of rum flared up her nostrils. He frowned, “Come on. Is it so bad to want some sugar from my boss’s new woman?” leaned closer to whisper, “y’know…I can be very handy, in the bedroom and— Just then Alex returned from wherever he went, to his henchman trying to woo his newly wedded bride. Hank, as his name was quickly rose to his feet like nothing happened at the sudden sight of his boss. Bridled with fear, he started to shake as Alex strode over. “What has this man said to you?” Alex asked. Olivia wasn’t sure of dexterity of the mafia boss’s temper, but the fire she saw in his eyes up-close was enough to earn her silence, even though the creepy henchman didn’t deserve it. “He said nothing.” “Don’t lie to me Olivia,” Alex said calmly, a clear sign of warning, “What did he say to you?” A hard lump formed in her throat as he smiled, placing a hand over hers on the table which she withdrew immediately, “He wanted…he wanted some sugar that’s— “Say no more,” Alex placed a finger over her lips, “I’ll keep you safe I promise.” His words would be reassuring to anyone else, deep down Olivia knew her husband was a monster and as if helpless, turned to look at Hank who turned pale as a ghost. “Please don’t do anything. I beg— “Hank would be fine,” Alex smiled as he rose to his feet, “He would just be taught a simple lesson about tampering with someone else’s property.” “I’m not your property.” “That’s where you’re wrong,” Alex replied, his eyes as mesmerizing but soulless as ever, “You’re mine Olivia.” As he stretched forth his hand Olivia’s gut wrenched, at the moment she had a glimpse of what her life was about to be. She was his sold to him in exchange for her father’s bed, she was really Alex Maldov’s property and just then she thought about her wedding night—surely he would want to have her as soon as the night comes to a draw. Her eyes started to brim with tears again, reluctantly she placed her hands in his and he pulled her up gently, he leaned closer and whispered, “I meant what I said…you’re really mine now Olivia. Let’s go home.”
