2.0 Transition

Family.

It is a concept that every Politician will endeavor to honor and compliment. It represents values that will always be defended. Yet, it has become a very abstract concept.

With the proliferation of information, we know this. Most families do not uphold, or represent, “family values.” In fact, most families are broken, and rarely by uncontrolled tragedies such as death or sickness. At the same time, however, so many people coming from a "broken home" turn out to be good, lawful, and just individuals.

It is therefore facilitated for us to lose grasp of what “family values” even mean, and why they are so important. Because they are so fragile and can be absent, it is easy to forget how much more likely it is for an individual to fall apart in their absence.

In those days, many thoughts were given to the children exhibiting supra-mutations. For years, many words and discussions were had, and many theories were argued, all of which focused squarely on the youth.

Not a single thought was given to the families. No one cared to consider how a parent might deal with something like a supra-mutation developing in their child. How a parent should behave when their child gains the ability to shooting laser beams or lift trucks. How they were supposed to deal with such powerful children who were very much in the most rebellious phase of their formative years. Still very much in dire need of good education.

Indeed, I believe the efforts of the parents during that first wave of supra-mutations have not been lauded enough. Michael’s parents are, in my opinion, a prime example of this. While completely unseen so far as Michael was aware, I can imagine the two had many conversations about how they should parent Michael, and that their parenting was a lot less organic and spur-of-the-moment than Michael might realize.

Then again, maybe I am wrong. Michael has never shied away from speaking about the positive impact his parents had on his life, and his good choices. And identifying his bad ones, too.

Eleanor, however? Despite all the gossip and rumors, the vicious theories and rude accusations, Michael never let himself be goaded to speak of her. It might all be common knowledge now that you're reading this -- I hope my books have that kind of longevity -- but I can't understate just how their relationship factored into the marketing strategies employed by my publisher when it came to selling this book. Everyone wanted to know about them.

However, Eleanor's part in Michael’s life had always been relegated to conjectures and rumors since he consistently, tacitly, refused to speak on any of it.

I can understand why.
