After a long stretch of awkward and silent seconds, Michael finally looked up to get an answer, but Griffin was gone. Michael scratched his head. He was so tired he hadn’t even noticed Griffin walking away. Silently, he tried to convince himself to go be with his friends. As much as he had lost, he would only really be the loser once he stood up. Until then, since no one was around, time felt truly frozen. Well played, little Mac, Maya communicated to him, playfully and much to his dread. I wonder if it’ll work, though. I hope not. I so enjoy playing with you. Michael breathed hard, and then someone sat right next to him. That two people had walked right up to him, and he hadn’t noticed, said a lot about his state of mind. And about his alertness. Well, about everything. “You okay?”
