12.3 Unnexpected Cooperation

The hotel entrance had a driveway crossing by it so cars could arrive and drop people off, but no immediate parking lot. The driveway was flanked by a short thin patch of grass framed by a regular street sidewalk along which cars were parked. Michael arrived at this sidewalk, stopping on the grass to see two men were about to kick the door in. Five others were flanking them, holding rifles, pistols, and shotguns, all locked and loaded. Like the men who had captured Jake, they were wearing makeshift padded uniforms and had their faces covered by masks. They looked more like bank robbers than soldiers.
