Thorne walked into his empty apartment, set the bag with the papers he needed to grade tonight on the table next to the door and carried his lunch bag into the kitchen. After dealing with his dishes and putting the freezer pack back in the freezer, he leaned against the counter and took a deep breath. The evening stretched in front of him with little to look forward to but grading and maybe binge watching something online. The same thing he’d done the night before, and the one before that. What an exciting life he lived. He wanted to ask Nancy out but he’d already picked up that she was a little skittish. He didn’t blame her. She’d been through a lot.
